funny card. It basically swaps attack and durability so you go from a 1/4 to a 4/1 eventually.

I think it's too slow though. Just use a weapon with high attack in the first place.

    I tried having fun once.

    It was awful.

with the weapon synergies this expansion it might be good enough, I like such cards.. it's growing the more you use it..

this set seem to take many ideas they had before but just trying to make them better this reminds me of Poisoned Blade as far as scaling weapons in rogue but obviously it isn't horrifyingly horrible.

Neat weapon, could be useful in a Tempo deck for controlling the board since it scales into higher damage for higher health threats or building up into a face-hitting weapon.  Also great synergy with anything that buffs durability like Doctor Krastinov or Captain Greenskin.

This is rather interesting. Usually, if you aren't able to kill your opponent within the next 2 turns, it is best to save your weapon for trading. But now you have to consider what you want to trade with and set up the weapon's attack accordingly. That being said I think the weapon will probably be too slow to see play, especially when rogues just got Coerce which is a fantastic removal spell.

is it just me or Hooked Scimitar and Waggle Pick are just better options ? Well, at least they will leave standard at some point.

Actually disappointed, expecting far more better weapon after revealed rogue/warrior minions. Because warrior already has too good weapons to benefit these minions advantages but rogue doesn't...

This suffers from the rogue weapon problem, where aggressive rogue weapons are doomed to be bad because they make your hero power useless and increase mana wastage.

It's a shame, but I doubt that this will see play, even though it does 18 damage with deadly poison.

This post is discussing the wild format.

It's actually not a bad Rogue weapon, although if you want high Attack immediately, I think you'd rather just Hooked Scimitar, or even just Hero Power + Deadly Poison.

EDIT: Also by the way, this is my 1000th post on the website. Cool.

It's good? I don't know, I guess it is better for control rather than smorking face.

its not really as bad as it looks. In many ways, if you need a card to support weapons rogue, then this card will easily be it.

With high durability, at 3 mana, and cards like Deadly Poison and Vulpera Toxinblade, there's plenty of ways to make this a big weapon that will hit solidly for at least 2-3 turns. Upgrade this with Doctor Krastinov for more damage and charges, and make the doctor really scary.

But what about its competitors? Hooked Scimitar does more damage but is combo reliant and only have 2 charges making it face or bust. Waggle Pick cost more mana, and have only 2 charges plus a possible tempo downgrade. If I need a solid weapon that I can buff and control the board and hit face with, this weapon will still be the better of the three.

Obviously meta dependent. An ooze will doom this weapon, and then some.

Funny card, but it feels really slow. Sure you can buff it with minions, and cards like Deadly Poison.

Actually it has 4 durability, rogue generally only has 2 durability weapons, meaning you can get in more swings with Self-Sharpening Sword. And if you upgrade it with cards like Doctor Krastinov and Deadly Poison and more, it will be a really good weapon. Now that i'm looking it kinda gives me Kingsbane vibes. Kingsbane also loved getting buffed, and also has the same stats, but i feel like Self-Sharpening Sword fits better in midrange decks, as it also buffs itself after attacking with it. Also if you get it big on atk, you can get good minions from Steeldancer from this.

So it's a bit of a niche card, that can be very powerfull when supported. will at least see experimentation.

RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.

A little slow for 3 mana, but with all the support at scholomance and 4 durability maybe some midrange deck can take this in to action.

If you manage to get Deadly poison on it or some other attack buff straight on - it may be viable. But other than that - just too slow to get any signifficant dmg out of it.

I love this! Even without any buffs, it's solid value for 3 mana. But you can buff this and dish out a LOT of damage.

Works well when buffed which is rogue's theme this expansion. Probably just ends up being too slow, either that or ooze.

I think it's OK, it's not as fast as Hooked Scimitar, which can inflict (without buffs) 8 damage by turn 4, but 10 damage by turn 6 is not bad at all. And, when buffed by +2, it would be 18 damage total, while the scimitar would be 12 only. So a bit on the slow side, but not that slow.

    The pleasure is mine.

I mean, you upgrade this with Greenskin once and it's 20 damage over the course of the weapon's life span. Issue is, the life span is so long that your opponent is bound to wall up eventually if they're control and you'll end up in a position where you can't win anymore.

But if I think better about it, one of the main uses of weapons in the early/mid game is removing minions... Is it worth spending 3 mana turn 3 to kill something with 1 health? Probably not. I have mixed feelings about this weapon...

I don't know man, this thing is kind of good.  It's low tempo for a rogue weapon but a ton of value.  If you deadly poison this the turn you play it and swing every hit face, thats 18 damage.  Obviously that's super wishful thinking but that's a lot of value from one weapon.  More swings means more synergy with weapon buffs so in the right kind of deck this is much better than Hooked Scimitar.

The problem is it's a bit slow and its more vulnerable to weapon removal because the big damage is backloaded.  Some metas barely have weapon removal, and in a meta like that, this may be your weapon of choice.

Despite having less attack than other weapons at 3 mana, this weapon compensates by having twice the durability of any weapon found at this level.

With an effect that increases over time it's final swing should be 4 attack before it runs out of durability, and by that time the weapon has done 10 damage over 4 turns.

for additional durability Rogues can use Doctor Krastinov and Captain Greenskin to keep the effect going, and this weapons increase in attack gives it a positive synergy with cards such as cutting class for cheap card draw and steel dancer for a higher mana cost minion she summons.

it is weak to weapon removal, Acidic Ooze has seen play in standard with pirate warrior, tempo demon hunter and Galakrond decks having weapons.

Fortunately if Rogue is concerned about weapon removal there's always Loot Pillager to re-equip the weapon to start the process over again.

I don't like this card: too slow. Since it's need Deadly Poison to be ok in the first two attack, i think it's going to be ignored

Not bad actually. It's pretty much 10 Damage for 3 Mana. And if you can stick Doctor Krastinov or Captain Greenskin it could get out of Hand for your Opponent.

I think the key to this weapon will be trying to find ways to increase its durability to keep it growing even longer, or perhaps speeding up the attack itself to get the most out of the four charges.

It needs upgrade effects to be good, but I don't see those making this better than the regular hero power dagger or Hooked Scimitar.

This doesn't seem like it will be worth running simply because there is so much weapon removal regularly played thanks to DH existing.

In a world without DH, this card might warrant decks regularly running weapon removal; but, as it is, I don't know that this will ever get the payoff on the fourth turn before it is removed.

It’s just weak on its own.  With some buffs it is more viable but I still think it will be to weak to make the cut.

Can do a nice inpersonation of Kingsbane (sans Lifesteal) with the other tools the archtype is getting in this set. Worth trying at least.

Keen to see the potential OTK combos that can come out of this weapon, but as always, if there's an oppressive weapon deck out there, there will always be ooze to counter it

If you include a weapon (that attacks) in any class or deck, you want it to have an immediate effect as you are sacrificing tempo in playing a minion to play a weapon instead. Self-Sharpening Sword doesn't have enough attack or a board-influencing effect when it is played, so I don't see why any deck wants to run it.

On its own the card is pretty bad, you can’t keep up with the board with this card’s scaling attack, and it’s not all too much face damage. Needs weapon buffs to be worth it at all, though I’m still not sure if the weapon buffs are enough

Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
