71% WR to Legend

Submitted 3 years, 6 months ago by

I essentially played 2 decks to legend this season (September).

From Bronze to D5 I mainly used a Budget Aggro Hunter (68% WR). This deck went through several revisions but here is the final version:

### Budget Aggro Hunter
# Class: Hunter
# Format: Standard
# Year of the Phoenix
#
# 2x (1) Adorable Infestation
# 2x (1) Demon Companion
# 2x (1) Dwarven Sharpshooter
# 2x (1) Intrepid Initiate
# 2x (1) Tour Guide
# 2x (1) Wolpertinger
# 2x (2) Freezing Trap
# 2x (2) Phase Stalker
# 2x (2) Pressure Plate
# 2x (2) Scavenger's Ingenuity
# 2x (2) Voracious Reader
# 2x (3) Animal Companion
# 2x (3) Eaglehorn Bow
# 2x (3) Kill Command
# 2x (4) Hyena Alpha

On my final run from D5 to legend, after quite a few attempts with several other decks, I tried Soul Shard Demon Hunter. It took 27 games with 11 losses (71% WR) starting at D5 no stars. Here is the version I played:

### Soul Reaper DH
# Class: Demonhunter
# Format: Standard
# Year of the Phoenix
#
# 2x (1) Battlefiend
# 2x (1) Consume Magic
# 2x (1) Spirit Jailer
# 2x (1) Twin Slice
# 2x (2) Blade Dance
# 2x (2) Manafeeder Panthara
# 2x (2) Soul Shear
# 2x (3) Aldrachi Warblades
# 2x (3) Shardshatter Mystic
# 2x (4) Ashtongue Battlelord
# 1x (4) Kayn Sunfury
# 2x (4) Marrowslicer
# 2x (5) Glaivebound Adept
# 2x (5) Soulshard Lapidary
# 2x (6) Skull of Gul'dan
# 1x (7) Soulciologist Malicia

Match Ups:

Priest: Easy, Consume Magic and burst damage is key.

Shaman: Easy, everything beats Shaman.

Warlock: Easy, self damage Warlock makes for easy games.

Demon Hunter: Easy, this version is simply better in the mirror.

Hunter: Easy, life gain, board clears and taunt simply shut aggro down.

Mage: Easy, just overwhelm them with damage.

Warrior: Toss-up, comes down to your life gain vs their bombs and their armor gain vs your damage output.

Druid: Toss-Up, sometimes they just get the nuts and ramp to Guardian Animals or bust out a Kael'thas on turn 5 and there's nothing you can do. Other games you just smorc them down. Blade Dance is key in this match up.

Rogue (Stealth/Weapon): Easy, see Hunter.

Rogue (Secret): Toss-up, really depends on how well you play around Plagiarize and if you have immediate removal/silence in hand for Hanar.

Paladin: Difficult, you have to juggle keeping their board clear, going face and hoping you have an answer for their Divine Shield, buffed, heal for 8, Taunt minion turn.  Consume Magic and Kayn Sunfury are key in this match up.
