When will we get notifications?

Submitted 4 years, 9 months ago by

I'm excited that OoC has done so well and covered the news so closely thus far, but I would like to know when we'll get notifications for our posts and mentions.

Probably the only reason I take part in the forums at Pwn is because I can easily follow who has responded to me or if there's been an update. Here, I have to either bookmark or remember which forums I've commented on. I like following up on comments and having dialogue, and without notifications that becomes much more difficult.

When - if at all - can we expect notifications?

Keep up the great work, everyone!

Yeah it will be awesome when this gets implemented. It should really ramp up the activity on the site as a whole, and keep people engaged in conversations.

It's an important feature and has high priority. Can't say when it will be ready, but it will certainly be sooner rather than later. We are all looking forward to this for the same reasons!

We've got achievements done and they'll be coming out this week. Notifications are up next so expect them real soon! I know how important they are to help direct people to active discussions and content, I regret not launching the site with them.

Don't worry about it Flux, no need for regrets - the fact you even launched this is huge for us.
Looking forward to all the new features and believing in you every step of the way. =)

    Let me light the way.

Notifications definitely are important and I am behind this 100%....but can we please not have achievements?

It's probably too late to ask at this point, but honestly it detracts from being in a community.  The only people who find the need for achievements are the same people who derive personal value from their XBOX Live gamerscore.  I mean to be perfectly honest, they weren't even achievements in the full sense of the word.  Hell,  beating Gears of War 3 on hard actually has more merit to it then "create a deck with Deathwing in it".

I have to disagree with you though I applaud the courage to stand up for what you believe in.

Achievements encourage interaction on the website which helps bolster the community more than anything. I've personally witnessed what they can do for a website and the love our community members have for them which is why they were a top priority. I think it is important that we can showcase how active someone has been on a site in a way that isn't just post count, even if some of the achievements are silly.

Ultimately it is a system designed for fun and if it isn't something you're interested in, you aren't required to participate - much like how we don't force people to click on fan creations content on the homepage. I think people who loved achievements before will really like what we've done with them here.

I used to love the old achievement system. Not only did it get me to venture into parts of the site I was unfamiliar with, but there was always something satisfying about getting a little trophy when your comment got 5+ likes etc.

Maybe I just need validation from people I’ll never meet over the internet, but it was nice knowing that what I had posted was well received and also to receive a fun, virtual reward.

Thanks Flux.  I can understand that entirely, and to some degree I think achievements can be at least fun; I just get concerned that it becomes another form of gatekeeping (reddit karma, instagram follows, # of achievements).  It sometimes comes to the point where I've seen people reject the opinions of others just because they dont have enough achievements, or because they just joined the site <X> days ago.

That's the only place my concern came into play.  We'll see how it pans out here too.

Those people were just trying to earn the secret "asshole" achievement.

This was never a problem before (on hpwn), and when someone did dismiss a user, it was usually when they had a low post count; and new or very old account, and these ppl were just being jerks for all the wrong reasons and they would be jerks no matter what. I dont think iv ever seen someone dismissing another person due to not having enough achievements on the site to be honest.

I can see how xbox gamescore or something like that on a different platform could make you worry about this, but from our past experience, i think we should be safe in this regard (knock on the wood).

Excited to see them come out! I loved the achievements on Pwn, so OoC will be a whole new level of fun for me. Even more excited for notifications! I can definitely wait patiently for those. Like Paragon, I don't think you have anything to regret about the launch; it DOES say beta right on the top of the page, after all.

Are there going to be under-achievements as well? For example, there was that one post about the Ragnaros card back where Almaniarra got like a billion downvotes. So are they going to get some cool devil horns on their avatar or something? If so, I'm going to stop being so nice so I can get devil horns too.

Fine, can I still have the devil horns though?
