Wild Tournaments in vein of Brawl Blocks?

Submitted 2 years, 11 months ago by

I've just randomly come up with an idea for a league or a series of tournaments for Wild players who would enjoy theorycrafting decks.

So the format would be similar to what Brawl Blocks were, so forcing decks to be built from cards from set expansions. There would be a few expansions, with voting at the end of each cycle on which expansion to add to the pool, up to six or seven; or vote for an expansion to be rotated with another. Then every two months, it's reset to four expansions. The last two weeks before the reset would be playoffs. Also, Core 2021 would be an omnipresent set to give each class more tools that are interchangable and cover some stuff that expansions cannot.

It's still a loose idea, but I think it would be a great idea overall to showcase the community's creativity.

I'm not sure if this would work for me since I do play way more Wild than Standard, but I used to be one of those guys that dust every rotating card, so all I have right now are meta decks and cards.

Anyway, it is a bit surprising that nobody has come up with the idea to organize tournaments on this site so far. I mean there are basically no limits I guess. Let's say we have a Wild Blitz tournament, only restriction is everybody has to bring Nozdormu in every deck. Set a server, a date and a match schedule and there you go. Results and matchups could be displayed here on the site, people just share their Battlenet tags and prove their results with a screenshot. As long as we're talking 20 participants or less this should be easy enough.

Hmmmm. We could try. There are just a few things I'd like to point out beforehand:

    • I'd like to make sure that the staff is fine with this.
    • Whoever organizes the tournament gets to make the rules. In my case, that means I won't negotiate the time frame for example. If I say it's Saturday between 8 and 10pm CEST, that's the date and I won't debate whether we can start an hour later or something.
    • Validation will mostly be based on honesty. I imagine something like the winner notifying the organizer via Discord (maybe we can have our own channel?), the latter updates the tournament sheet on OOC. So the base assumption is that we're all honest people and don't need proof. Screenshots would only be needed if someone wanted to challenge the claim of someone else.
    • No prizes. We're playing for fun and internet fame only.

That would  sum up my most important conditions if I was to organize a tournament. Now let's see who'd be interested to participate! If you are, please post your server and the mode you'd like to play (Classic / Standard / Wild). If we get together more than 10 people by Sunday, the second of May, I'll start a seperate thread to work out the details with all the interested people. I'll start:

anchorm4n - EU, Standard and Wild.

[side note: Flux, we could use a poll function. Pretty please?]

Nah, it's ok. I'm glad it sparked a new idea. On the contrary, I've sent this post to HS subreddits, and someone pointed out Born to be Wild Podcast tournaments with similar rules, but that same user appreciated my take on that formula.
