Bwonsamdi Death Priest - Help Needed!

Submitted 4 years, 8 months ago by

Hi all,

I've been dying to get Bwonsamdi, the Dead to work in a deck ever since I unpacked him during Rastakan. I'm not much of a deck builder, but I have quite a lot of priest cards and figured I'd have a go at putting them to use. I love the idea of using bwonsamdi along with Spirit of the Dead as a value generator, getting lots of 1-mana minions shuffled into my deck before pulling them out with bwonsamdi for some insane late game value. When it works, it's glorious, but the deck does struggle in the early game.

Please take a look and give me your suggestions and be kind, as I'm pretty new to deck building!

Question. What is your ideal mulligan draw here against Aggro or Midrange? My quick sense is that you’ve maybe overinvested in the Deathrattle mechanic through Shadowy Figure/Mechanical Whelp/Weaponized Piñata at the expense both of things that will help you in the early game and sustain your long term win condition. Do you really want to drop Bwonsamdi even on Turn 7 to pull 1 cost versions of things that need to die to trigger their real mechanic again? I’m not familiar enough with Priest to know what could fill those early turns, but even swapping out some of the clunkier cards for pure control (Forbidden Words) might speed things up.

    Hi mate, thanks for replying:)

I think you're right about overinvestment. For aggro I tend to look for northshire, evil conscriptor and extra arms, and I'm not sad if I end up with a mass hysteria in my opening hand.

If I can get an infiltrator to stick, then hide a spirit of the dead behind it and other taunts, that's often enough to control my way to victory. Even if I don't draw bwonsamdi, top-decking those 1-cost minions gives me a steady stream of threats.

Forbidden words sounds like a good idea, but what to cut? Sn1p sn4p is a dubious inclusion as, while you can end up with multiple copies of it into your deck, you can end up shuffling the 1:1s, which seriously dilutes your deck.

Test subject could go: while the idea of getting extra arms back from it is decent value, the combo doesn't tend to come off too often, and it ends up being a dead draw.

Weaponised pinata is an option too, although the random legendaries it drops can make for a lot of fun :)

I'm gonna try ditching 2 x test subject for 2 x forbidden words. Will let you know how it goes...

May all your legendaries be golden.

Hey Majere, I don't know if you're still working on this deck, but we took a crack at building something similar in another thread which may give you some food-for-thought!  In particular, Deck Doctor Challenge #5 (about halfway down the page) featured this starting deck which the author said got him from Rank 5 to 3:

It too aims to have fun with Spirit of the Dead + Bwonsamdi, but instead builds around Magic Carpet and a Divine Spirit + Inner Fire package.

NightCrawler and I didn't have the greatest success with our creations, but it's a really fun archetype and some of the stuff we tried may spark a different idea for you!  For example, if you do stay with a deathrattle heavy package I found Reckless Experimenter pretty spicy for late game Spirit of the Dead combos.  What I always wanted to pull off was a Turn 9 play an 0/3, a 4/6, and a 2/2 that dies, summons a 7/7 , and shuffles a 1-cost copy of itself back into your deck...and then next turn you magnetize ten 1-cost SN1P-SN4Ps into that bad boy for 20 extra damage (pics or it didn't happen!).
