All the new Hunter cards for Voyage to the Sunken City have been revealed and in this article we're going to discuss how they will impact Wild in general and any specific decks they can fit into.

Here is how the cards will be rated:

  • 5 stars means a card that can see a lot of play in meta defining and powerful decks
  • 4 stars means a card that can see some play in the best decks and a lot of play in slightly less competitive meta decks
  • 3 stars means a card that can see some play in less optimal meta decks or is good for some off meta decks
  • 2 stars means a card that can see play in any deck, even if it's a very niche or weak archetype
  • 1 star means a card that won't see any play at all

Hydralodon

Hydralodon will not see play in any meta decks or cause a deck to become meta, just because of how fast Wild is and his cost. However, he can be good in Big Beast Hunter, either Reno or non-Reno, with Vanndar, as well as in an Unseal the Vault quest Hunter.


Raj Naz'jan

Quest Hunter doesn't want Raj Naz'jan, it would rather complete the quest faster and use Dragonbane as a minion finisher. This may see play in Even Hunter, especially if you combo it with Emergency Maneuvers to guarantee you have a full mana turn to spend on spells. However, even there it may not be the best choice of a deck slot. 


Emergency Maneuvers

Emergency Maneuvers can see play in Even Hunter, Secret Hunter, and many off-meta Hunter decks that have key minions they want to protect. You can guarantee this hits a particular minion, and there's no easy way to play around it. A great secret for a variety of Hunter decks.


Urchin Spines

Professor Slate doesn't see Wild play, but Urchin Spines costs 1 and is easier to combo with spells. Quest Hunter may want to consider teching this in instead of the Hunter's Mark it usually runs to deal with big minions. Both don't help complete the quest but this one can let you deal with more minions than the single one Hunter's Mark affects and has especially good synergy with cards like Bola Shot.


Twinbow Terrorcoil

Twinbow Terrorcoil is strong because the spell you double may be cast on another turn. However, the decks where it fits in are lower tier and it is not strong enough to boost them into meta viability by itself. It may be worth trying it in Even Hunter with a spell package as if it doubles a Piercing Shot you'd get 6 extra damage.


Harpoon Gun

Harpoon Gun is great for Big Beast Hunter as it lets you affect your draws twice and get 4 potential mana worth of discounts. However, it's not worth playing in any other deck, not even regular Beast Hunter with small beasts because that one would rather play Leatherworking Kit.


Naga's Pride

If you want to see why Naga's Pride is too weak for Wild, compare it to Petting Zoo. This one is capped at 2 3/3s while Petting Zoo can get up to 6. Also, there are not a lot of nagas worth playing in Wild. At least for now, this should see no play.


Azsharan Saber

Azsharan Saber is clearly only good in Big Beast Hunter - but even there you'd rather run Vanndar.


Conch's Call

Conch's Call is a card that can eventually be good as a tutor card, just due to the fact that you can use it to get a spell. Right now though, there aren't a lot of nagas worth running in Hunter - some niche decks might try it to get Queen Azshara or Twinbow Terrorcoil but it won't be meta.


Barbed Nets

Barbed Nets will see play in Quest Hunter just as another copy of Arcane Shot. It's a high quality spell to help complete the Defend the Dwarven District quest. The naga bonus isn't needed and won't come up often in Wild.


Overall Set Score

Sunken City Wild Hunter

More support for Quest Hunter, as well as the very versatile Emergency Maneuvers, means Hunter's strength in the Wild meta is significantly increased.
