The Bethesda Direct just concluded, and, alongside updates for existing titles, we also got a first look at Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a new game featuring our favourite history-teacher-turned-adventurer that named himself after his own doggy. While the existence of the game was known for some time, this is the first details we're getting on the title. Let's get into it!

Story

The events of Great Circle take place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade. It all starts with a break-in at Indy's museum, where a very tall individual steals a seemingly innocuous artefact. Indy must now travel the world and figure out what the significance of the artefact is.

Accompanying Indy is Gina, and investigative reporter and secondary protagonist who has her own interests in the stolen artefact. The main villain of the game is Emmerich Voss, an intensely psychological man of the Nazi variety obsessed with the human mind and how to best manipulate it.

This is a cool shot.

Gameplay

Coming from the creators of the Wolfenstein games starting with The New Order, Great Circle will take advantage of two of Machine Games' strengths: First-Person experiences, and punching Nazis.

The main gameplay loop of the game will see you switching between sneaking around bases, shooting Nazis with your revolver, and punching them with your good ol' fists. You'll be able to approach the game however you like (translation: You'll try to stealth, and when that fails, start blastin'). There'll also be a number of puzzles in the form of traps in ancient structures that somehow still work, though a good number of those are optional.

A very big part of gameplay will be Indy's trusty whip. You'll be able to use it to attack your enemies, pull them on the ground, distract them by hitting objects, or use it to reach higher points in the environment. Speaking of traversal, while most of the game will be in first-person, climbing stuff like ledges, water drains, or your own whip, as well as most cinematics, will all have the camera pull back in third person to see Indy's... "iconic silhouette" (the devs' words).

Whip 'em into shape

Release Date

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is slated to come out later this year for PC and Xbox Series S|X on Game Pass, likely day 1.
