Gamemode Idea: Rotating Sets

Submitted 4 years, 5 months ago by

About a month ago I made a thread asking if Frost Nova should be HoF'd to increase the variety of freeze effects that can be printed for Mage. The reaction was mostly negative, since too many freeze effects would eventually overwhelm mage in Wild mode.

That got me thinking though: would people be interested in a new play mode that uses rotating sets? Similar to Arena and the Brawl Block tavern brawls, you could only build decks from certain expansions. For simplicity, it could follow the same current rotation as whatever the arena is.

The idea is this lets old cards shine like they do in Wild, but in a way that keeps the meta fluid and prevents "solved archetypes" (so things like Rez Priest and Face Shaman wouldn't be insane forever). It might even let certain bad cards see the light of day without better alternatives. This also gives Blizzard more leeway to print similar effects to rotated cards and make them competitive, since there would be an alternative to Wild mode. Also keep in mind this balances Priest's ever-growing collection of board clears.

Thoughts?

A man is lying on the street, some punks chopped off his head

I'm the only one who stops to see if he's dead.

    Hmm. Turns out he's dead.

I thought about that some time ago. It would be a nice idea. IMO, I think it wouldn't be troublesome to be implemented.

The nicest thing about it is that the meta wouldn't be so stale and if some sort of busted deck appears, then it would be gone as soon as the rotation hits; no need for nerfs...

Yes i also thought about this idea. I first think what if Wild have a set rotation, would people be encourage or maybe discourage to play it. But maybe making it as a new play mode works too, so everybody have something for their taste.

I know Wild suppose to be, well.. wild, but maybe a little less wilderness could be a good thing.

This idea has been around for quite a while, but as far as I know Blizzard sadly isn't paying much attention to it. Maaaybe they're secretly planning on doing something like this but right now all we can do is hope.

    Bam! https://outof.cards/forums/hearthstone/hearthstone-general/1488-six-formats-hearthstone-could-easily-have
    (See Brawl Block Format)

I think every player has had an idea similar to this ever since Standard Rotations became a thing. You're not the only one who wants this.

this is an old idea tbh. blizzard is against it cause they believe HS sucess relies on casuals which means they need to play something that is understandable which means a stable meta that they can quickly figure out what to play BUT mainly they dont like splitting the player base cause what casuals want are quick games as in you dont spend more than 30secs searching for one match.

usually it takes 10 seconds in standard and a bit more in wild so they dont want ppl to take much time searching for a match or they start getting bored.
