Submitted 4 years, 3 months ago by

Hi,

i´ve been playing since Witchwood, and now that there is the possibility of buying wild packs with gold, i wonder if it worths to buy until get the first legendary card, guaranteed in the first ten packs.

i only play standar, it would be just for dust

what do you think?

I think it would be worth in both case.

If you play Wild you have a chance to get some good cards without spending a lot of gold (imagine pulling something like Kazakus or Aya Blackpaw).

If you don't play Wild you'll get quite a lot of dust for little gold. Let's say you get your legendary at the 10th pack of every past expansion: for 1000 gold you earn 1 legendary (400), 2 epics (200) let's say 10 rates (200), 1 golden common (50) and 36 regular commons (180), for a total of 1030 dust. Not bad!

If you are floating in gold and really lacking in dust, then yes, it's worth it, but it's not that much of a gain on average. It's much better if you play wild or to widen your collection. From my experience, it's not too common to hit legendary in the first 5, and the worst case is 1:1 ratio, as Avalon calculated for you.

If you don't have too much gold, I would say they are better spent on new expansion packs.

Side question, does anybody know if that old 10 pack legendary reset for old sets (where 10-timer still worked even if you already opened packs from expansion) works today, has someone tried it?

Oh, thanks for bringing this up! Now I might consider buying the old packs instead until I get a legendary

I would say yes it is worth it buying until your first legendary. Though I do disagree about dusting all of your wild cards, you never know what you might be playing in a year from now.

I would advise against it. If you only play standard you're probably better off buying packs of the latest standard set. The reasoning is that the conversion from dust to card is always worse than opening the desired card directly. There are seven sets in wild at the moment, even assuming that it doesn't take ten packs for each set to get the "first ten" legendary, on average you'd spend probably 3500 gold to get the 2800 dust, plus whatever change you get from the remaining cards. I haven't done the math or calculated the probabilities for the rarities, but I would be surprised if you'd come out much better than a 1:1 gold to dust ratio. So for your 3.5k gold you'd barely get more than two new cards to play with.

Especially with Descend of Dragons coming out today, I think it is much better to buy those packs, you'll get more cards to keep in your collection and play with, and fewer cards you need to craft, plus some dust.

    and I would advise;

If you buy with gold buy 1 open 1 buy 1 and open 1 until you find a legendary.

    Don't make it like buy 10 / open 10.

How could he play wild until now i really wonder. He says he started in Witchwood. He never collected wild cards before. He probably have Genn or Baku and wants to play wild.

I wanted to not read after i saw "If you are only playing standard".

Also, he will see his collections going wild in time, if he don't start to collect some in time for wild, it will be more hard in time to collect with more cards and if he says he wants to play wild now, he will probably want more when his cards keep going wild. After 4 month, most of his collection will rotate.

Something is about will and what people wants, People don't want always the best answer. If he wants to play wild tell him how he should buy and how he should make collection for wild.

So @OP, Yes buy at least 10- until you find a legendary and buy them how i described above. buy one after open one keep going until you find a legendary and praise the rng god that it gives you legendaries at first packs ! :D After that and at mid-expansion, you might buy more according to your gold management. If you play arena and you are good; you can even buy more to expand your collection !

He said he only plays standar (sic), and that he was only buying wild packs for the dust of the legendary within the first ten packs.

I agree that buying one pack at a time is definitely the way to go IF he decides to follow through with his plan, but I think he would his standard collection more by buying packs of the last three expansions, because he avoids the loss of value due to the card to dust to card conversion and will end up with more cards he can actually use in standard.

An important factor is, if you aim to (allmost) complete standard sets.

Example: you buy 10 packs of Four different wild expansions. In return you get 4 legendarys (1600 dust - one legendary of your choice) and a little extra.

If, on the other hand, you buy 40 DoD packs, you are guaranteed 1, on average 2 legendarys that will be usefull for the next 16 months. Those cards in general have more value for Standard players.

Given that you would probably need less than 4000 gold to get those 4 wild legendarys, the calculation allmost evens out. But if your goal is large collection and not getting specific legendarys, DoD packs are defintily the better option.

If You’re on a budget and need those meta defining cards, wild packs are the safer gamble

On a general note, i would get those wild legendarys! But not so close to the expansion. Just save a couple gold down the road and open some wild packs from time to time. Consider keeping those cards if they are any good since wild brawls are a thing and you Never know what will Happen with all those old cards in the future.

I would highly suggest that you don't dust what you get and start building your wild collection.

It honestly takes less cards than most people expect.

And around Rank 10 in wild is some of the most fun you can have in HS. You come across some weird decks and it makes for some really fun games.

Just slowly target your favorite classes or legendaries that open up an archetype.

Just my personal opinion on the matter.

If you don't want anything to do with Wild, it is definitely worth it to buy 10 packs of each expansion for the dust.

I agree. It looks intimidating getting into wild, but the truth is, over 60% of those cards aren't needed. Just try and aim to get one wild deck at a time and soon you will find that you own all of the staples and as time goes on your entire standard collection will become wild.

It will take time of course, collecting anything takes time, but in the long run it is definitely worth it.
