Soooo that other site..

Submitted 4 years, 9 months ago by

An announcement was made that other site was purchased by another entity that has taken over ownership now.
What I liked is the backing of the mods and, of course, Flux. 90% were in support of Flux and the Mods and even this site...not that they are here and still posting there : / Curious as to everyone's thoughts about that site not closing and new ownership taking the helm of the ship.

I'm kind of hold the opinion that it was a dick move by then to not allow Flux and the others to purchase the site saying they are going to shut it down. Then at the 11th hour once they had moved to here decided "hey let's just sell it anyway."

Chances are I'll probably still stay here since I'm hoping this is where Flux and co. Will keep updating cause they've shown us over the years that they care and want to keep the community thriving. However if they stay at "the other site", I may stay there as it's where I got my start with the hearthstone community.

All in all, I'm both happy and annoyed at this move by curse. Happy because Hearthpwn lives. Annoyed because as I said in the beginning dick move to sell to another party when Flux was showing an intrest to keep it alive.

did they reach out at all to flux to buy hearthpwn or was it just wait ... we can milk more ad revenue lets push it off to the next person who gives us money forget the fact that we were willing to screw the entire community and mod team up to a few days ago

A lot of variables go into why a site gets sold and to who it gets sold to. Can't really start flinging insults when you don't know the why behind the decisions they made.
From what it seems, the new owners have experience with running gaming websites already and had the resources and revenue in place to continue forward.

The question that would make more sense is if the new owners are reaching out to Flux to stay on.

Hearthpwn was great because of the people that built and ran it.

Apparently the company that bought Hearthpwn also bought some other gaming sites from Curse, so I think it's safe to assume it was a package deal, and that's the reason Curse wouldn't sell Hearthpwn to Flux.

That said, it was still handled in a dickish and unprofessional manner, leaving mods and users in the dark until the last minute, telling everyone the site would close down only for it to stay up, etc. I doubt this was the new owners' doing though, seeing as this has only hurt Hearthpwn's reputation and relationship with their userbase. Had things been handled more competently they probably could have retained flux, the mod team and the users, but instead here we all are.

Calling Hearthpwn "that other site" is highly immature im sorry. Its not about your opinion on the selling besides you cant possibly know all the conversations and procedures by listening only one side.

I was planning on migrating here eventually, but the shenanigans with sale just gave me an uneasy feeling about Heathpwn and its future. I think I'm here for good now.

then to be quite frank you're an idiot, Flux and these guys have done huge amounts for the community over the years and anyone can see they will continue to do so here, I'd much rather use Out of Cards now which is run by people who actually care for the community and have done huge amounts for us and kept us properly up to date with everything, then to carry on using hearthpwn which is now going to be run by a bunch of monkeys we've never even heard of. lol

To me it's the opposite: this site >>> that site (and I almost feel sorry for the new team there).

Welcome to the real world, where subjective opinions and choices exist. :)

I'm happy that hearthpwn is staying around, because now all the toxic people who made hearthpwn awful can stay there and wallow in their filth.

All of us who care about having a good place to come together and have a solid community, can work together to make OutofCards everything we wished hearthpwn could be.

I stand by Flux and Co.

I called it "that other site" out of respect for Flux and the mods and not being sure if they wanted that name being stated here. It isn't just about my opinion as why I asked for others to share theirs lol. I also continued to say in response to another member just that; We don't know what went down and why the decisions that were made were made.

Pretty sure there's no problem mentioning Hearthpwn by name here. On the other hand, I got a warning and my post deleted for simply stating that I was moving on to Out of cards on Hearthpwn. Apparently they thought I was promoting my own website...

Thats a ridicolous behaviour from Hearthpwn's new mods. They already started with a bad influence and this furthers it.

The long and short of it is that without Chimera, Flux, et al. Hearthpwn never would have been as amazing as it was - With them gone, I don't see that site lasting too long under new ownership.

Even the most recent Tavern Brawl post was lackluster at best without Flux's signature flair.

The end of days is coming. Doomsayer was right all along.

They don't care about the community, they just did a quick sellout because they get nice money for selling the website to the next best buyer. Not going to return to Heartpwn.

It's unlikely the new owners of Hearthpwn are to blame for the poor transition. However, they have quite some challenges ahead of them, having to deal with a messy code base and a need for a constant flow of new content. Out of Cards is still a bit bare-bones, but all the essentials are here, it loads much faster and it has a steady stream of fleshed-out news articles.

It's a shame what's going on on Hearthpwn now, the amount of scammers on the gold quest thread is just ridiculous. Also the time for news update is not really on par with this, not to sound critical I think the new team doesn't have what it takes to keep the level when Flux and others were there. Glad to see that Flux started another project and from now on this is the one I will be using.

Thanks for what Flux and Co. are doing for the Hearthstone community. Very much appreciated!!

That's unfortunate about the scammers. We did have a script to help stop most of them from posting but as we have left Hearthpwn the script had to come with. Currently though that will help keep them away from this site for now, and hopefully soon we will have our planned system in place which will involve sign-in to battle.net to use, and scammers will be easy to shut down.
