As much as I liked WC3/TFT back in the day, I find the notion of a direct remake repulsive, lazy and creatively bankrupt. Instead of a clone with updated graphics, I would have liked to see a sequel with new units, maybe even a new race. Heck, if they really wanted they could still make this WC4 game backwards-compatible with WC3 by including all of the units, maps etc. from that game and adding a "play WC3" button.

Since the release is scheduled for tomorrow, I'm reactivating this thread now.

Recently they admitted, that not all announced features will make it in the release.

Is anyone still buying the remake?

I'm general against that remake-culture, that has been established in the video games industry lately, and I don't like, that they stripped features.

But I love wc3. I might buy the remake. Maybe wait for some reviews though.

I loved WC3, so that has to be a yes. Might need a better PC to run it in tho.

This ain't no place for a hero

I don't think, that an high end pc will be required. The technic is that of sc2.

As someone who played a lot of WC3, I don't think I'm picking this one up. For "direct remake with no real updates/changes beyond graphics," the game has to be something I can't currently play and I can still play the original WC3 just fine when I get the odd compulsion to do so.

Can I ask where you found that information? A quick Google search gave me nothing.

At any rate, I will still be buying Warcraft III: Reforged. WC3 is one of my favorite games, and my original discs do not work anymore.

Huge WC3 fan here. Together with WoW, it's the reason why i still play HS.

However, as appealing as Reforged looks, it is indeed just appearence.

    Not enough for me.

They won't add specific (side) missions for Silvanas and/or Jaina, as far as I remember.

Don't know, where I got that info though.

At first I was a bit excited since I played WC3 a lot, but when I recently played the old game again I could not find the patience for it anymore being used to much better stuff overall from StarCraft 2, which I also do not play since I only want new campaigns for singleplayer. And then to only get more pixels for your buck would seem a bit...underwhelming. I now see the reviews and I am very surprised they released such a clearly unfinished product, which has upset lots of poeple who bought it.

I have sill my hopes up for Diablo 4 though...

I cannot agree with the confidence for diablo 4. Of course, there's s still hope, but Blizzard seems to have lost its focus.

After seeing Diablo Immortal, this Overwatch 1.5 ish something and now Warcraft 3 reforged, i have not too high hopes in D4. One can dream though.

How long can this go on?

0 hype, as far as I have seen they didn't change anything that is not graphical.. so why bother?

Plus they are selling it at 30 EU (dollars if you are in US, cause 30 dollars=30 EU, Blizzard logic) which is a lot for a game that let's be honest isn't that different from the original.

I liked W3 when I was younger but now I don't feel like playing RTS anyway they just brought back the same game they had 18 years ago with updated resolution/graphics.. which TBH are not that impressive.

I understand a lot of people are disgruntled because it's just the old game but with new graphics.
I agree, beyond that, it's not too exciting.
but for an 18 year old game that is still going strong it's a great revival for older returning players, and to bring in a new audience who may be put off by the old graphics.
The core gameplay is fantastic, and it'll bring new life to the competitive scene, map makers and machinimas.

I got into WC3 around 2009 as a teen, fell in love with the quirky graphics,  humourous animations, story and gameplay.
As for Reforged, I'm not too keen on the art style they chose to go with, I wish they had kept somewhat closer to the original, but It'll be interesting to see how the game feels with the new "serious and detailed" art style.

I've not personally played yet, but I am looking forward to doing so, I hope maybe this will pave a way for a possible WC4.
Events after Wc3 that we've played out in WoW from familiar and different perspectives, lore only seen in the books or content that wasn't fleshed out enough in WoW.

At the end of the day, I wished Wc3:R had played out more authentic and true to it's original, but I understand from the main market demographic and to bring in a new audience the decisions they made with the art style.
Maybe I'll be back with an update after I've played some.

    Let me light the way.

    Will it though?

I've seen DOZENS of posts/news articles/comments about the modding scene specifically and how Activision changed the TOS so that any custom map is 100% their property (guess they're still salty on missing out on that sweet DOTA $$$ before they dropped HotS). Not that mapmakers are in it for the money - but it has clearly sent a message that has left a bad taste in many mouths. And for competitive scene I really doubt they're going to cannibalize what's left of the SC2 competitive scene for this reskin that frankly has seemed like a lazy cash grab with a languishing property from day 1. They saw how many old games were getting "remastered" and making money, including the flagship RTSs like Age of Empires 2 and figured "hey let's get in on that."

And this is all coming from someone who still loves old-school RTSs and has replayed WC3 somewhat recently. I wish this were more/better than what it is, but I won't let the nostalgia goggles blind me to the sad truth.

I never played it back in the day.  I was at blizzcon the year they announced it so I pre-ordered it that early.  I got to play it some last night and I <3 it.  It's interesting being able to learn the lore firsthand instead of in some random wow quest.

O, that this too too solid flesh would melt
Thaw and resolve itself into a dew!

Now the meta score is at 0.9 by over 4k reviews. Seriously, it can't be that bad, can it?

It got worse 0.5 from 15k negative ratings..

Wow blizzard how hard you can screw up.. Seriously releasing the same game with slightly better graphics, and *removing* features.

Anyway people are losing interest in blizzard which is good since maybe they will change their greed policy.

Honestly had they just reworked the cut scenes like it was shown before release, instead of the watered down bs that is currently, maybe most people would have just shrugged and enjoy the game like it used to be 18 years ago. I guess they were pretty much copying what was done to starcraft 1 remastered: graphical improvement, no change to UI, no change to cutscenes, somehow managing to make some characters looks even worse than the original. Its instructive, perhaps, that because there were no backlash to starcraft remastered they thought they can get away with this bs too.

Ever since the founders of blizzard moved on, I guess we were pretty much 'well informed' as to where blizzard is heading towards now. I just hope they don't screw Diablo 4 too much, but judging from the demos I guess that's more than enough information on the subject.

WC3:R isn't worth playing. I mean, it's the same engine from 17! Years ago with nothing but graphical updates.

Blizz has lost everything they stood for in the past. They don't even try to be innovative anymore.

Hence they don't deserve my money.

Now that hat the cat is out of the bag, I sure am glad for my pessimistic initial take because things are so much worse than I'd imagined.

Apparently the PR department completely overhyped what reforged was going to be, setting unrealistic goals for the devs and making promises to fans that couldn't be met with how many resources Blizzard actually invested into this remake. But even if we set that aside, like I said in my first post, I think the rot goes all the way back to the core concept here: remaking a beloved game 18 years down the line. There's no way that game could ever have lived up to the fond memories and nostalgia of the original WC3. Hell, I would argue that even the idea of "improving" the graphics was a giant misstep: WC3 characters were designed for low-poly models and the two go together perfectly. Keeping the character designs but improving the visual fidelity turns these characters into misshapen nightmare fuel, much like turning Sonic from a cartoon into a 3D CGI creature made him a monstrosity.  Adapting any design to a new medium is tricky, and this is one of the worst examples in recent years. For a game that does very little besides "update" the graphics, it's a crying shame that even those came out looking WORSE than the game that's old enough to drive and enlist at this point.

    I tried having fun once.

    It was awful.

I played both games, and Age of Empires 2 DE might be a good choice for people who were let down by WC3:Reforged.

But it has no fantasy setting. I would like a remake (or even a steam/something version) of battle for middle earth. Or Battle Realms. Or Armies of Exego...
