Have you ever had a moment when you wanted to craft an expensive card (Epic or Legendary) based on an idea you know is going to be bad of a deck you know that will never work, but you just have to do it for the fun of it?
What was the card, and what was the result of this endeavor?
I am having that moment right now... and was wondering how others handled it :)

Elemental mage, right?
Crafted 3 epics yesterday, 2 mana cyclones and a plague of murlocs for elemage and control shaman respectably, needlessly to say Both decks suck.
Thanks blizzard for being able to test decks cheaply.. Oh wait.
I remember crafting Mukla ages ago for Midrange Hunter. To be fair though, he actually wasn’t that bad. He helped with getting in a nice chunk of damage early on, and the bananas usually didn’t end up screwing me over
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
If you want to test decks cheaply, let other people do it for you then craft cards if the deck is found to be good. Or if it is an option you can get a friend to make the deck, then use that deck in games against them.
Asking to be able to test everything cheaply yourself is asking for a lot more than your off-hand comment makes it sound. If you can come up with a way to do it that both lets you test against the meta and doesn't decimate Blizzard's profits (they justifiably wouldn't do it if it did), then you should let them know.

Anyway, I play exclusively meme/low power decks, so either everything I craft is a bad idea or nothing is. Though I'm pretty sure Bolf Ramshield qualifies as a truly bad idea. I don't remember what the plan was, but I know it didn't even meet my low low expectations.
They could start by increasing the chance of getting epics.. sometimes I am more excited to open a specific epic than a legendary..
My friends don't play hearthstone or they don't have a big collection, most of them quit.. guess why.
I got around 15K dust stored in duplicates but you never know what they will nerf so I can't press "disenchant all" button and going over all commons one for one is a pain, also I am in high hope Blizzard one day decides to stop being so greedy and increase the dust per common to 10 or decrease the cost of epics.. I can keep dreaming on that..
Then people complain why people net deck so much, can't try stuff myself so I have to copy what works so I am not stuck with a meme deck.
It would be kind of nice to have like a "Practice" mode where you could at least play against the A.I. with all the cards unlocked. That would give people a chance to try new and different mechanics to at least get a feel for how they play and if it's even reasonable to try in the meta.
Ah yes, I remember when I crafte Lady in White thinking that there had to be some way to make that card playable

I crafted 2 Portal Overfiend for my Portal Warlock. It was okay, but not game breaking though.

I absolutely agree with everything written here. Everything.
Most of the times (unless it's a Zephrys the Great/Kronx Dragonhoof/Siamat type of card) crafting stuff feels like a gamble in which you have to hope the meta won't change so much that your new toys will be pushed out of playability.
Unless you don't aim for full collection or you have plenty of dust due to continuous preorders, crafting can be punishing and stressful at times, especially if you want to optimize your resources.
For what concerns the thread's topic... Remember Doom in the Tomb? October 2019? Yeah, the night of the event's launch I got really drunk and I thought Flamewaker Cyclone Mage would have totally wrecked the meta. So what? Crafted 2nd copy of Mana Cyclone and Stargazer Luna (a Legendary I always wanted to have but never had the courage to craft because I don't have good Mage stuff and because of what I wrote above).
To be fair none of these cards are bad by any means and sometimes I even use them (Luna is good in OG Odd Mage, now even better with Arcane Amplifier), but yeah after 10 games or so I realized that spending 2000 dust while drunk is not as good as you might think.

Hah, you'd be amazed. If I'm particularly interested in an expansion, I will theorycraft a huge number of decks (I think last time I did this I had ~14) and I will make damn sure I have all the necessary cards on release day. As a side effect, I spend a huge amount of packs on release day when that happens.
The decks I come up with are rarely, if ever, good (I don't bother posting them because why post something that has a 90+% chance of being garbage?) and it costs me a lot of money... but it's fun, so I do it. The bright side of having a decent job, I suppose.

Dr. Boom, Mad Genius for me. The card is fine, but I never had all the required cards for the pimped out warrior deck so I'd invariably lose to the other warriors, at which point there no point in playing the deck, really. And I don't even enjoy paying control warrior, so there's that.
Well, yesterday I was feeling bold so I upgraded 2 legendary cards to golden since I had 5K spare dust sitting in my account and some 5K gold which I converted to 30 packs yielding some more dust. So now I am the proud owner of golden versions of Luna's Pocket Galaxy and Archmage Antonidas which both mean a lot to me personally (they are my friends so to speak).
I am not sure I will later think this was a very bad idea when I really need some new card and I can't afford it.
But I now have a clear new goal: get all mage cards to golden and then to get a golden deck (slightly harder probably).
Crafting a Legendary because of a stupid Idea/it seems cool is always the first Thing I do during Xpac-Launch.
So, yeah... Waxadred, Murozond the Infinite, Chameleos, Zerek, Master Cloner, The Marsh Queen, Emeriss, Temporus, Madame Lazul, Vereesa Windrunner, Bazaar Burglary, etc.
But I regret Nothing!

I once crafted a warrior legendary Dr. Boom, Mad Genius (what was I thinking my god) but I was happy when they nerfed it so I could dust it again.
It's funny how half of those are Priest...
I crafted Unite the Murlocs for a control murloc shaman. This was before Witchwood, mind you, so no RoS support either. Needles to say it wasn't super-duper successful.
Would be nice if you couldn't get more than 2 of the same epic. I really don't need 6 x Bestial Wrath when I'm missing useful epics.
But they said they won't do that so I guess we need to be happy they changed legendary duplicate rules.

Well i craft Zephrys the Great just for the sake of playing him.
Now i know that he is very strong and all, but i don't have all the necessary epics and legends to complement him.
So i just make a highlander deck with whatever cards i have and just go with it. I guess you could say that i got carried away by the hype train.
Almost 4 years ago, shortly after I started playing. The first legendary I saved up to craft was Illidan Stormrage because I thought it would be good in my Zoolock Deck, and I felt it was wrong to not have Illidan in my collection because my son is named Illidan.
Have never used the card once...

I crafted Sir Finley of the Sands day 1 of SoU because I was so sure Highlander Paladin was going to be good...and then did exactly the same thing with Dragon Paladin & Dragonrider Talritha day 1 DoD. I should leave Paladin decks alone...
Paladin is currently tier 2... as a mech deck..
Well about dragon paladin maybe next year I don't think it's the last of those cards..
Well, you know, I crafted Tak Nozwhisker, I thought it would make pogo decks finally viable... I played it like 3 times. Maybe my dust deserves trying a bit harder...
Last time it was Nozdormu the Timeless, at least this one is playable, but not nearly as good as I thought.

Mine was Mojomaster Zihi for Even Shaman in Wild. I didn't have neither Ragnaros the Firelord nor The Lich King but wanted to have a good standard card... later I just replaced it with an Eater of Secrets.

don't have your hopes up, I doubt they will nerf that card the deck was balanced before a certain elusive beast came around.
To hell with rationality, I will craft Unseal the Vault, Halazzi, the Lynx and Boommaster Flark tonight and create that quest hunter deck. Nevermind I already had pulled them all from packs once and dusted them. Someone stop me please?

My latest unsuccessful idea was Arcane Giant for a spell priest. It was tones of fun to play with, and together with Grave Horror I had some extra board presence. Played it at the end of last season since I was at the bottom of rank 5 and didn't care to climb anymore. But as the new season hit it was clear, this card will not help me to climb as priest.

I got that out of a pack and it's honestly pretty decent, particularity the deathrattle-mech variant - definitely very mulligan/curve-heavy in getting the Reborns, but it's on of those snowball decks where if you can make it to mid-game and start spamming, your oppoent will be very hard-pressed to win with anything short of a Plague of Death clearing the field or OTK.
Though that deck's time to shine was definitely the Halloween event - 2 mana Sylvanas Windrunners & Ragnaros the Firelords? Yes, please!
"Pretty decent" is stretching, but it's not useless. It's just a horrifically inconsistent deck, which is why I'm hopeful for Shotbot.

Oh, one more to add to the collection - a year or two back, I decided I was tired of having every card on day 1 with nothing to work towards. I also knew I was too weak to simply stop myself from buying a huge number of packs. So, I decided to implement an alternative rule - I was only allowed to craft golden cards from then on. That way I wouldn't have enough dust to make every card and would be forced to work towards some of them. Perfect idea!
..Except I misjudged my own stupidity, and the only real result was I just bought more packs. I am the worst.

Just on top of my head I crafted:
- 2 x Juicy Psychmelon: For the Hadronox + Dollmaster Dorian combo in the previous meta. Won some matches with plenty of hearty laughs (against odd paladin was a blast to win). Loss many many matches because I couldn't draw my combo, or just plain dead to aggro.
- 2x Muckmorpher: For the big shaman games. Really fun, except its inconsistent, and you get destroyed by shaman's bad draws, which is alot of the time. Oh, and I ended up opening a 3rd Muckmorpher later on. This, blizzard, is why we don't like to craft epic cards.
- 2x Stampeding Roar: Was to try out beast/egg druid. Was fun, but you tend to lose. Alot.
- Khadgar: Is a very good card right? But I crafted it midway in SoU to play cyclone mage with less than 50% win rate. Yes, I really really love playing poor decks.
- 2x Mana Cyclone: Wanted it Didn't get it in a pack. Didn't want to risk the duplicates. Ended up crafting midway in SoU when it sucks.
- 2x Umbral Skulker: Because I love rogue as a class and really really wanted to play maly rogue. Needless to say, its not been a successful craft
Highlights how expensive it is to have fun in hearthstone.
But it would be beneficial for the people out there so they can make an informed decision when they...oh its ACTIVISION-blizzard
