Guaranteed method of specific Champion/Epic drops?

Submitted 4 years, 1 month ago by

Need an epic card, so if I craft all the epics (from the relevant region) apart from the one I need, will I have a 100% chance drop for the desired epic? Then I can just refund the unused cards?

What would happen if I get a champion capsule for a region and I own all of the champions? Would it simply switch to an unowned random champion?

    There is no refunding.

If you absolutely need a certain card:

    1. Craft it using a corresponding wild card if you have one
    2. If no WC: use your shards
    3. If not enough shards: set your rewards to that region and pray you get lucky sooner rather than later

Cool, I was under the assumption you can refund any card if the card was not used within a week.

    From the Official site:

If you’ve made a purchase you need to reverse for any reason, unused items can be refunded* within 7 days of purchase. What’s even better is that you can refund right there in the client! Just keep in mind that some items, like the Starter Bundle, cannot be refunded. You’ll be notified before you purchase any non-refundable item.

I don't see how this would not apply in this case. I have personally refunded many unused cards in-game, instantly, and without contacting support.

"If you’ve made a purchase you need to reverse for any reason, unused items can be refunded"

Maybe I'm missing an exception to the rule.

Is there a refund limit? I can't imagine they haven't thought about people abusing the refund system.

I guess the champion would turn into a lot of shards.

afaik (could be wrong) there is no limit to how many, although you have a week to refund. I don't actually think this is abuse as they state on their site that you can refund for ANY reason as long it's unplayed. Sure they might not like it as they want you to buy the cards, but it's not going against their terms in any way.

Well, violating their terms and abusing/exploiting the system are two entirely different things (one is a legal and the other a moral issue). I personally don't care if people use the refund system to their benefit this way, but I could see Riot changing its implementation if they notice an increase in this kind of behavior.

I personally don't see a moral issue with this either and I concur, this will be patched at some point for sure

Out of curiosity, if you think there's nothing morally wrong with using the system this way (which is fair enough, I'm not going to force my opinion on anybody), why do you think Riot would change it? Because people who do it might be less inclined to buy wildcards with real money?

    Profit ofc.

Sure, people would be less inclined to buy wildcards, but I doubt it's much of a threat for now as they would have patched it already. When people have more complete collections this could be a problem for them though.

I just wish the card game industry would shift from the lootbox/lotto paradigm and more into the cosmetics business model much like dota 2 did. I have spent a bunch of £££ supporting Dota in this way but rarely spent money on Hearthstone for example, as I can't stand paying for something that only gives me a % chance of getting what I want.

I will definitely be supporting this game financially if they continue the way they are and don't become the next hearthstone; the fact that you can just buy specific cards is pretty amazing imo :)

Aaand this is why other card games don’t offer refunds ;)

Just drop some dollar and buy an epic wildcard..

Too late....I already have it!  :) I think I'll save my $$$ for some cool cosmetics instead, as I have plenty of shards and wildcards anyway.

This could be described as "clever use of game's mechanic".

I'm honestly not a fan of any part of the current reward system, and I'm actually thrilled to see the cracks are showing. I mean, their heart is in the right place by not selling randomized packs, but it still needs a lot of work.

For example, there are a lot of feels-bad moments as you level up a region. You earn 2500 XP (or whatever) to open a golden chest and find 2 epics, 4 rares and a bunch of commons. Then you have to earn 2750 more XP to earn a single epic at the next level? So dumb.

If they believe their own statement about making every card playable, it seems to me they should just make all rewards wildcards. They could do away with shards altogether because there would be no such thing as extras.

Maybe add some sort of manual upgrade system where you can turn 4 common wildcards into 1 rare, etc.

While this game is much more generous than Hearthstone, it's still a gacha system at its core. Eventually your rewards are going to max out and you won't have any choice other than your weekly vault, which is basically nothing, even at three diamonds. When more sets come out, you will have to spend money to keep up.

It's obviously not the same balance team as League, but that's all we have to go off for now. They said that exact thing, word for word, about League, and that's the furthest thing from the truth possible.

Yeah once my region rewards ends and an expansion hits, I feel like it's going to be very hard to keep up a good collection. The rewards are going to feel super underwhelming after the region rewards ends.

Sure its better than hs but it's still quite a grind for the weekly vault and even maxing the rewards, you don't boost your collection by much.

I wouldn't say your weekly vault is basically nothing. You have a chance for champions in them and you get the expedition token which yields at least one random champion as well. So getting 1+ champions every week for free is enough to get a decent collection.

I would also argue that if the game is still fun for you even after you've maxed out all regions (which will probably take more than 100h gametime), it's maybe time to actually spend some bucks on a product you've enjoyed for free for so long. And LoR is also super fair in that regard in the sense that you know exactly what you are getting when you spend money.

I'm going to hazard the fairly confident guess that any expansion launch would also include additional progression methods alongside the regional unlock system (or just add to it). There's no way they won't be expecting most people to have finished most of their regional unlocks by the time they get around to launching an expansion.

I'm not sure what you mean by "keep up," but that doesn't sound right to me.

At the moment, most free players who have been putting in the time on quests and daily PvP bonuses should easily have at least a couple of viable meta decks. Do you expect more than that for free?

I don't think it's unreasonable for Riot to expect people to spend money if they want a large, diverse collection. If that's what you mean by "keep up," then no, you should not be getting that for free.
