So Hearthpwn is dealing warnings to users who mentions Outof.cards now?

Submitted 4 years, 10 months ago by

So basically Hearthpwn is warning people now.

EDIT 16-6: added image.

IDK, there are multiple threads regarding OoC and which I have participated in.  No warnings on my end.  Perhaps it was for some other reason?

Nope, advertising was the reason. I have the proof, but don't know how to share it.

Well, it's understandable, if you get in their shoes. They are bleeding because of this split.

Tbh, i don't think OOC needs advertising on HP. Everybody there knows of OOC by now, at least regular users, and advertising there is unfair, if you think about their situation there (of which they cannot be judged responsible).

Best thing for whoever prefers OOC is just leaving HP alone, and produce traffic and content here instead.

And if one means to use both sites for the time being, it's pointless to generate harm on one of them.

Once I saw that Hearthpwn was shutting down, I deleted the bookmark and moved on.  I don't know what state it's in now, and to be honest, I don't really care.  The king is dead, long live the king!  Hail, Out of Cards!

Bleeding or not, it's scummy.  "Advertising" infractions are for the dick enlarger threads they leave up all day.  If mentioning OOC is advertising, then they may as well close down the entire off-topic section because we mention random things in there all the time

Just yesterday I was defending these guys because "they're not Curse and haven't done anything sketchy yet"... well, that didn't take very long

Yeah, I also got a warning for simply mentioning that I was moving on to ooc.

They want to keep users there but when hpwn was about to close people were asking "what's next" well ooc is what next.

There is no need to further advertise the forums, the active fanbase is aware that if it wants to stay with the community ooc is the place, but if you care about the platform you stay at hpwn.

There isn't much to be desired about the platform so the decision is easy for me.. Just that I need to stop this habit of pressing h + enter every day.

If some people are getting warnings while others aren't I wonder if it's more of a single person initiative than a set rule there. I'm curious if the mod giving warnings to Uilebol and dib is the same person. Not saying this was the correct action for them to take, but to be honest I get how mods there could take it upon themselves to warn people. Being somewhere and hearing people say something to the tune of "This place sucks! Everybody, let's leave this place and go there instead!" is going to leave a bitter taste in your mouth no matter how true that statement is.

I hate when rules suddenly are changed, and that's what happened here. I don't care which party is the guilty one, all I know is I want to support the people that made heartpwn what it was, and I simply do not have faith in the new guys with 'several gaming sites' Who's to say they will have as much passion for hs?

    Lets make this place great.

I have trouble uploading images, posting links, editing my posts, and copy pasting tekst. So I guess the title is all you get for now :p Sorry. Mod xskarma dealt me a warning after mentioning outof.cards basically. I'd share it if I could.

Trouble with uploading images and editing posts goes far beyond current drama. The site/forum tools were/are so outdated, run on an archaic system and were not managed properly by Curse/Fandom, so many things dont work as they should. I dont know if the new owners knew what they were gettin themselves into, but managing and/or even ideally (for them) transforming the site to be more user friendly will require an enormous amount of investment and effort, not sure they are ready for that. Only time will tell.

The change in the situation (shutdown > not shutdown) happened so fast, they probably werent ready for the task at all. Fired all of us mods without a single word and brought back some old mods who havent been active for literally years and have forgotten how stuff is done/handled plus they obviously are trying to stop the bleeding out of their user base to a competitive site anyway they can. And they apparently are not goin about it in a most friendly way.

I dont agree with how they handled many things so far, they will probably hire new mods soon tho from ppl who stayed, but the transition will be far from smooth and the work requires much more than ppl think, if you want to do your job well that is. Guess we will see how they fare after a while.

Hope you stay with us on OOC tho, obviously hehe :)

I think OP means he'd love to post proof that he got warned, but can't because he's having issues doing these things on OOC, which is weird because these seem to be working for me

Oh lol, guess i completely misunderstood, mostly cause no one complained about it here yet, but i know hpwn had these problems for years now and my mind went there right away haha.

If you have problems uploading images here Uilebol, tell us and we can try and help you (you basically need to use the direct link to the image tho, which usually ends with .jpg or .png or .bmp or something, that is the most common mistake when uploading pictures pretty much anywhere).

To be fair, although this site is older than expected, I can assume Flux (and you guys) only started working on it full time recently, maybe using it more as a testing ground for implementing stuff on Hpwn itself. In fact, one of the things that I'm still not used to there is the fact that, when I want to quote someone on my post, I click quote and don't actually see the quote on my post. If I just want to answer one line in a 50 page post, I have to first answer with everything and only then edit out the fluff I don't need. I suppose that also happens here right now though, but there is still a lot of room for change while in beta.

I made a polite comment wishing the new owners luck, but that I and many others were off to https://outof.cards

Further stating the good thing about a choice was people could choose what works for them best.

As far as I know it wasn't moderated but I've logged out and don't intend to log back in again.

I did consider adding OOC to my hpwn signature, and don't look on the way things went down kindly, but I also think it's best to let the drama die down, wish everyone well and support OOC.  I won't be giving hpwn much thought in the future aside from maybe looking for decks from time to time as an unlogged in visitor - and even that will go in time once OOC gets more established.

    All generalizations are false.

The weird thing is that it states the reason is "advertising" but also mentions "Our forums are not a place for you to advertise your own website."

I'm guessing you don't own OoC, Uilebol.  And I also assume you have no real affiliation with them.  So "advertising your own site" doesn't really apply as a reason here.

It also bothers me as I have seen so many threads in the past from people advertising their Twitch stream, etc, and some of those threads had a VERY long history of posts by the streamer promoting their own content on the forums.  Where was their warning?  Or the deletion of their posts?  I know it's a different crew in charge now.  So sre those threads being taken down and dealt with now as advertising?  Or what about when people would make comments/suggestions to other users on the forums that HS Replay had the data they needed and to check there for deck lists, etc?

I guess it's only breaking the rules if you're mentioning a competing site that could be directly siphoning off their user base?  HearthPwn really either should have stuck to their guns and let the site die or sold to Flux!

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

Can't read in to those messages too much, they are automated and pre-formatted, so it wasn't created with with every context in mind apparently.

All I said over on HP was that the situation could have and should have been handled differently/better. I got a suspension. Screw HP and all hail OoC!

Yeah, as Chimera already mentioned, the msg you get from the warning system is an automated msg originally created to cover a broader area. There is an option to add a manually written msg, which was not used in this case.

Also, the warnings on hpwn werent too fleshed out, you usually had to find one that would fit the "crime" best, which often could result in the offender wondering, why they got this particular warning for their offense, most neutral one was "Non-constructive posting", which didnt exactly specify the problem, but it was usually the best of the available options at the time. I know ppl were often confused by that, it was just how the system was set up. We worked with the tools we got.

    ---

About the Streamers promoting their channels. We had a rule on hpwn, that streamers were allowed to create a single thread where they would promote their channel and they were allowed to bump it once a day. Thats why you could find months and years old threads with nothing but streamers promoting their channels and no other responses, they didnt do anything wrong, thats just how it worked.

I'll be honest, if I had decided to stay on hearthpwn, I really wouldn't care much for the posts talking about OOC.  Similar to me having to choose here and if I saw folks going "oh hearthpwn is great now.  We should go back!"  There's just so much awkwardness between the two already that bringing it up in a signature or other feature just feels like ..well... trying to attack the site by drawing people to the other site.  Though really, a thread going "Hey everyone, let's all go to Reddit" wouldn't be that great either.  That's less declaring of what you guys should do and more just sharing my emotions and how I would perceive the situation, and perhaps a few other people as well.

We made a new home.  The old home is around.  OOC has a lot of building to do to get itself up to snuff.  Hearthpwn has a lot of issues it needs to fix.  The best thing for both is to let both live and for each to handle that business.

The public, like much of the internet, though is always 2 posts away from open warfare over SOMETHING.  I can honestly see a few signatures or stray comments leading to some stupid war between OOC and hearthpwn.  I'm saddened and understanding of them wanting to put a lid on it especially if some of the ones doing it probably are better off staying in OOC and talking heathstone than in hearthpwn talking about how bad the site has become.

That's my opinion on it so feel free to take it with a batch of salt.  Myself I was considering keeping both but after hearing the drama I don't feel I could go to hearthpwn and treat it like a normal site, so I don't go there anymore.  Maybe if things stabilize and everything calms down and we can reference each other over topics without old blood raging I might return.  Otherwise , meh.

To each their own, but I will ask those who are still in hearthpwn: are you really helping to make the place into a good spot to post in or are your posts, well intentioned or not, causing more strife?  REALLY look at them and decide whether it would be better to just stay here and talk about fun things, or go start up Hearthstone for a few games.

Or Magic.. we're also a magic site now right?  So yeah, that too.

Why trade with minions when you can face for...billions?

That warning message makes me want to go over there and get myself banned. I probably won't, but Curse handled this whole situation like a bag full of scummy dirt. I want nothing to do with hearthpwn. Complete garbage the way everything was handled. I'll never have anything to do with Curse again (and luckily I don't play WoW anymore, so I don't need them for their addons either).

Mmm. If I click quote on your post I get your post in a quote. What I find confusing is the Reply button, since that looks to be a normal post at the bottom of the list instead of inserted directly below the post replied to
