That's shockingly good .. 5 mana-5 dmg- 5 drop ; I know its a big ''if'' but a deck full of spells for mage should be doable, or so is Team5 telling us ^^

So obviously this is good, but is it even possible to build around this? We already had both Mage legendaries revealed and neither of them really work with this (Evocation does, but doesn't exactly help that much).
There's also the draw problem. Only Arcane Intellect won't cut it if you can't even play the board.
I'm assuming there will be more cards to support this, but without a big payoff card a la Rhok'delar I don't see this working out
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
It may take a set or two before all the support that was intended for the archetype is available, and mind you, more cards are to be revealed. There is still hope !

No minion deck? Interesting, but competitive? Not so sure.

Mage has definitely enough Removal and Aoe to support this Archetype. Flamestrike, Blizzard, Frost Nova, Ray of Frost, etc.
Drawing Cards might be an Issue. Randomly generating them however...

Why not? the spell is really good and helps such an archtype.. what we need is
1. another card with such payoff.
2. more proactive cards that generate minions like in hunter..
But isn't it just the same archtype but in other class?
Hey, new mage archetype! This card looks very promising, any card that can remove a minion and get you a minion on the field is worth considering. Obviously this card isn't very good on its own, but I am under the impression that this archetype will be getting a lot more support this expansion. At least two other cards that either say "no minions" or just really really want you to have a lot of spells.

I'm intrigued by the possibility of a no-minions mage, but at the same time, why is this exactly Firelands Portal for less? Couldn't it have done something slightly different?

I think a Spell-only type of Mage might not work, and this card is also a pretty bad card to get "randomly".
If no-minion Mage get's more support, this card might be interesting. But for now, such a deck doesn't look very promising.
Bad card. Needs a lot of support
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.

Pretty strong spell mage card. mini pyro with a kick. still this does not beat the RNG mage cards that I am anticipating.
Firelands Portal - save 2 mana by having no minions in your deck.
This will see play in pure spell mage, but I don't think that it's enough pay-off for that deck to work.
I ma unsure if a pure spell mage deck will be something competitive. If that's the case, this is will be a staple, but I have seious doubts about it.
Well, No-Minion Mage is one of those archetypes that will be supported - directly or indirectly - with each new expansion. It might not be enough direct pay-off right now, but we'll have to see. Still looks like fun.
5mana 5 damage is playable, but even now after the full reveal I don't see any competitive deck running it.
This card is a stronger Firelands Portal in the right deck, but in standard I doubt that is possible to create a "spell only" mage right now. Anyway it's a good card from a random generator
5 mana firelands portal sounds powerful, but a minion-less mage deck probably lacks the tools to really close out games. Hunter spell only decks have the advantage of a spell suite that is a lot more tempo based than mage. Probably does not see a home in wild unless more spells come in to replace core mage minions.

Cheaper Firelands portal with a restriction. Nice addition for no minion-decks wich won't be competitive but fun to play around with.
The pay off of spell slinger mage is not bad, i think. The flavor though, Jaina stands alone (no minion) as she unleash the spell barrage is really cool.
Wonder how you'd construct a no minion deck.
It's probably better as a late game removal when your deck's almost empty and you're running low on resources

They really have no idea to make something new for mage it seems.

If they printed one or two more spells that summoned minions then this’ll probably be decent, as it is though I don’t think there’s really enough for a deck like that yet
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
A weaker Fireball if played with minions in the deck, but very strong if you can make use of its summon.
If Spell Mage actually becomes a thing, it's because of the huge tempo swing and reach this card has. I don't think it's enough for the archetype, but there is always a chance.
Rating cards on coolness factor rather than predicting power because I like screwing up rating averages (and because I suck at predicting real power levels, but we'll ignore that LUL)
