Another stab at Galvadon; seeking advice.

Submitted 4 years ago by

As the title suggests, the introduction of Lady Liadrin and the Librams has me curious as-to whether or not I can make The Last Kaleidosaur a fun deck. I don't care if it's Tier 1, but I would like to win a game or two. I'm always second-guessing my ability to put a deck together :(

Here's what I've come up with so far:

Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Some questions I have:

- The deck is like 99% Paladin cards, so I went ahead and made it 100% with Lightforged Crusader. Is this a good idea?

- What's the desired ratio between minions and the buff spells? The bare minimum is 6 buffs, unless you count Libram of Wisdom's ability to copy itself, but that seems like too little.

- Are these the most desirable minions to buff? I don't have to stick with being "Pure"; it just seemed like a convenient outcome at the time. I thought about including Murgur Murgurgle as another reload + buff opportunity, but I don't know what to drop for him (if anything).

I don't know how viable it would be but i really like The Voraxx in buff Paladin. I always loved its synergy with Spikeridged Steed and now considering Libram of Wisdom might be decreased to (0) mana and regeneratable, it might be a good piece for this deck. Its tokens might also give you more Libram of Wisdoms as well. I would probably drop Lightforged Crusaders and add 2nd Spikeridged Steed for The Voraxx fantasy. It might be also better for your mana curve imo. Don't you think 7-mana slot is so heavy in the deck ?

Well, I might consider to put Spirit of the Tiger out too for The Voraxx but it would break pure synergy.

I also want to make a Highlander version of this deck so I can use 1x Potion of Heroism instead of 2x Hand of A'dal for example. There are so much buff cards in Paladin and dudes don't work in Buff strategies mostly. Putting Sir Finley of the Sands wouldn't be a bad choice imo so I will try to make a Highlander version.

But nice deck, I really liked it, except The Voraxx of course. :D I love non-viable stuff. :P

If you're looking for minions to drop, I think it has to be Immortal Prelate. I love the card but based on personal experience I can safely say that it's only good in veeery slow matchups, in most other cases it is just a 2 mana 1/3. I'd say even Primalfin Champion is a better choice because it returns value much faster.

And like Almaniarra said, The Voraxx and Spikeridged Steed are great options for this deck too. Everyone might say that the voraxx sucks but using any decent buff on it often makes it worth it and it's a must remove for your opponent. Plus on turn 10 you can get a 5/9 taunt that summons a 3/7 taunt and both with a deathrattle that summons a stegodon, which is pretty good I'd say. :)

No [Hearthstone Card (Sound the Bells) Not Found]? When I used to play that deck, this was the card that helped me complete it the most.

Personally, apart from Libram of Wisdom, I don't see the value of the Librams in this deck. Personally, I would make the following changes:

    -2 Libram of Justice

    -2 Libram of Hope

    -2 Aldor Truthseeker

    - 2 Lightforged Crusader

    -1 Spirit of the Tiger

    +2 Crystology

    +1 Spikeridged Steed

+2 [Hearthstone Card (Sound the Bells) Not Found]

+ 2 [Hearthstone Card (Djinni of Zephrs) Not Found]

    + 2 Primalfin Champion

In my opinion, the biggest issue with the OG paladin quest is just that it's super slow (and the reward is kinda meh, but anyway). Because of that, I would try trimming down on the top end a bit as well as cutting the slower cards because if things go decently, you should be able to beat down the opponent with either Galvadon or with a very large Immortal Prelate/any other creature.

The cards I see being the most meh are both theLightforged Crusader because while generating extra librams sounds really fun, that feels unlikely due to being in wild,  the Spirit of the Tiger because its pretty slow and pretty much all you make with it are small creatures that don't do much. Finally, I'm not a huge fan of the Bronze Explorers as they do not benefit much from being buffed aside from gaining you more life when they attack and the dragon you discover should not be that impactful.

Some cards I think would be good if included in the deck would be two Lightforged Zealots as, since your already all paladin cards, you might as well run the best payoff. It lets you start removing things when it comes into play and gives a body you can buff up if it survives. Another card I think would be decent is a Potion of Heroism, most likely as a 1-of. More draw is always good and the divine shield is pretty relevant for trading. Finally, since this deck needs more of an early game that does not rely on other cards to make it strong, I'd probably toss in 2 Shielded Minibots. Its a strong minion on its own and given how most likely it is going to survive, it gives you a good base to start buffing.

My biggest issue with this archetype as a whole is just that its slow and the payoff doesn't instantly win the game. It's going to be absolutely picked apart by the rest of the meta for the most part, but there's not much you can really do to fix that aside from just playing a different deck. Aside from that though, the deck does look really fun and so good luck when you get around to piloting it with the new cards!

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

@On the subject of The Voraxx:

Unfortunately(?), I do not own The Voraxx, and I do not plan to craft the card. There are much higher priorities for my dust beyond a card that's only good in this one, less-than-stellar deck. Good idea, though.

@On the subject of going Highlander:

I honestly thought of that too! There are so many cards I want to play in this deck that it becomes hard to decide on which to include (hence this thread). Going Highlander would alleviate that feeling somewhat, so I'll probably make a second version of the deck and try it out.

@On the subject of no-Sound the Bells!:

Sound the Bells! was a casualty of war: it was in there when the deck was 40 cards large, but I needed to trim something and it got the ax. I definitely think it can be reintroduced. I do have one concern, though, because I'm wondering if Lady Liadrin will refill my hand with copies of Sound the Bells! from the Echo effect. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does get in the way of the other, better buff spells I want to reacquire.

@On the subject of including the non-buff Librams:

They're the new hotness, so I want to try the package. That's it, really lol. I'll probably remove them after I discover the cards aren't working.

Here's a second theorycraft of mine, making it a Highlander deck so I can fit everything I want inside. It does not have the Librams outside of Libram of Wisdom, and it is not a Pure Paladin deck.
