Would taking the cap off champions in decks be op?

Submitted 3 years, 11 months ago by

Like being able to run up to 3 of any number of champions I don't think a deck full of champions would be strong at all so it wouldn't break the game it would probably just look tacky on the matchup screen.

    I agree, I think that they’ll keep the max though, just so that it fits in with League of Legends (since teams in that game are 6 players). However, I could definitely see them making a Game Mode in which you can play unlimited numbers of champions. (A Full Champion deck would be such a cool meme)

    Also, the 6 Champion limit helps keep the game more free to play friendly, since to make a meta deck you’d need a max of 6 Champions, whereas in Hearthstone some decks are made insanely expensive by requiring tons of champions.

    I believe one big reason behind the cap on champions is for the oponnent to have a guess on what kind of deck he is about to face even before the mulligan phase.

    @CursedParrot Teams in league are 5 v 5 though.

    Would also be funny to see a whole screen covered with champion faces when you find an opponent and at the start of the game.

    I guess most champions really aren't much stronger than followers unless you build your deck strategy around them. And since you couldn't build your strategy around many different champions at once, this probably wouldn't allow for any absurdly overpowered strategies - yet.

    Over time, with more and more champions being introduced, it's a fair assumption that we'll eventually get a number of champions that synergyze very well together. And at that point, playing 9 or 12 champions in your deck may offer overwhelming value compared to other deck strategies which don't have multiple fitting champions.

    In short, I believe this could create serious balance issues in the future. That aside, from a design perspective, champions are supposed to give your deck its identity. I mean, you can theoretically play 6 different ones in your deck, but that's rarely a sensible approach.

    I don't think it would be OP since most champs needs decks built around them so having to many in a deck would lead to none of them really performing to the best of their abilities.
