Is there an easy way to identify which expansion a card is from?

Submitted 3 years, 11 months ago by

I would find it really useful to have a way of identifying the expansion of a card on the hover. Currently the only place I can see for sure is of I'm on a deck page. I can inspect the anchor to see what the CSS class is. I know that OoC has the icons, and the cards have a different design(?). What I'd like is a page with a helpful overview of the OoO icons (and card designs) that I can reference?

I’m not really sure what you’re asking here, so I’ll answer everything you could be asking- some of this will be obvious to you:

    1. The watermark icon in the center of the card’s text area shows what expansion it’s from.  Spiral for classic, gear for GvG and so on.

    2. The full list of those expansions can be found in the Hearthstone in-game collection manager (or in a pull-down tab at hearthcards.net)

    3. I believe the symbols used in the OoC deckbuilder match the watermarks (might be wrong on this).

I know that with some digging around, it can all be found. Just a little surprised that there isn't a single page somewhere that explains it clearly and shows them all. The watermarks are actually quite difficult to see. I know I can see the different icons if I open the collection manager, use the bottom left filter - but I have to scroll up and down. It isn't very clear to beginners, for example.

I did mean generally for HS. But, OoC specific, the deck page has the symbol (not the name) and the card page has the name (not the symbol).

Technically, there is a way to do that already, but it is just not preferable. First, we do not have an easy tool to do it, but more importantly, it would just make the text look awkward and it would take away your attention from the content. Iv seen few ppl do it in their deck guides in the past and it did exactly that.

Let me give you an example:

Sludge Slurper is a very strong card, but if you aren't a fan or want some more bulk, Surging Tempest can fill that role instead. Moreover, if you don't have Tunnel Trogg, Surging Tempest is an easy substitution.

It is way more fluent to not have the set icons in the text themselves. I can understand having difficulties with recognizing the watermark on the card behind the card text, but i would think that majority of ppl will know to which set the card belongs to and if there is a card they are unsure of, they can just inspect the watermark on the card; or click on the card and check out the card page. I dont believe you would need to do this for every other card and if you did, you might want to head to card search or to Expansion pages and look over the cards from individual expansions to better familiarize yourself with them.

Having it laid out for every single card would be over the top imho. And if the argument would be that it would be easier for new players, they dont know the set images anyways and it is better to get an idea via other sources listed above.

Or maybe you are asking about something completely different? Just an overview page where there would be watermarks listed and the name of the expansion they belong to, so you can quickly identify which image belongs to which expansion?

    Hey sinti

I didn't mean when you use the [ card [Hearthstone Card (] code. I meant on the card page itself. I linked to Crystology (https://outof.cards/hearthstone/cards/425-crystology). On that page, under  'Card  Stats' it has the text 'Expansion: The Boomsday Project'. My suggestion is that it has 'Expansion: *icon* The Boomsday Project'.

    Yeah, that was point no.3

And my 2nd point was that on this page: https://outof.cards/hearthstone/expansions/ the expansions are listed, with a title and a big thumbnail. Maybe an icon could be added next to the text there, too?

Personally, I think the overview page is probably the most useful one?
