Legends vs Diamond 9/10

Submitted 3 years, 10 months ago by

Just reached Legends. The first three matches I had were against Diamond 9 or 10 ... is that normal ? I had expected either Legend or Diamond 1/2

It all depends on your MMR

I love Weasel Tunneler and there is nothin you can do about it.

If you lose a couple of times in legend you will end up playing against silver, or even bronze players

As I understand it, under the new system - your opponent is always based upon your MMR, somewhat around your rank. Last month I made legend, and then faced people of all different rank levels once I got there (as the first response said), depending on how successful the deck I was using at the time was. I played wild for the first time this month yesterday and was playing a pretty memey Duel Paladin deck on ladder. I was at bronze 10 and was facing a wall of quest and secret mages and cube lock thrown in occasionally. I had a 9 star win bonus in wild to start, so presumably it was pitting me against people who generally reach diamond ranks or above.

When you are at Legend you can see your opponent's rank

btw i am convinced there is some bug in the mismatch: after several games either i fight against Legend players with ranking similar to me or Diamond 9/10 or even Platinum 1/2 ... this doesn't make any sense ... now low Diamonds...

No, they made you not to see your opponents rank, because it often can would frustrate you seeying that you as gold/platinum player are ranked toward top diamond/legend players. So if you are good, you will battle top players even if your rank is low.

Your visible Rank has nothing to do with you matchmaking since the mmr is not based on your Rank. Think of it as if everyone is a legendplayer, but  the number is covered by a Ranksymbol that gets reset every Month while your legendnumber doesn't.

I'm not a Legend player, but does it bother you folks that they suddenly kick back on a pure MMR system once you break legend?  I always thought a cool part of legend was that you could then "play your way" and tank your rank to meme it up in the 1000s without hurting next season's rank.

This is all based around the premise that even those with a 10x Star Bonus lose it by the time they reach Diamond 5, which I can't confirm personally...

    From the Blizzard FAQ:

Q: How does matchmaking work for each season?

A: There are two matchmaking pools: matchmaking by rating (aka. MMR) and by rank.

When your star bonus multiplier is bigger than 1, or you are in Legend rank, you are (generally) in the first matchmaking pool; when your star bonus drops to 1, you are in the second pool.

that sounds like it's working exactly as it's supposed to.  it goes by mmr so if you play someone at legend it should be someone with a close rank.  your MMR just isn't that high so you're getting the diamond and plat people.  if you climb the legend ladder more you will no longer see people outside legend around 1500 and less, on NA at least.

Another thing that might be impacting your matchmaking is the time of day you queue and the format. One of my friends plays in the US server around the middle of the night in wild to test something and found out that he was queueing against low plat, even high gold just because of the lack of players.

Its probably still all just MMR stuff, but a lack of players might also play some role.
