What’s Next for Runeterra

Gauntlets - JUNE

Gauntlets are limited-time competitive modes with unique deckbuilding rules.

  • The first Gauntlet arrives June 26 (patch 1.4) and will use standard deckbuilding rules as we test-drive the underlying tech, while the second to join the rotation will challenge you to build a deck using no more than one copy of each card.
  • Gauntlets will be live over weekends (3-4 days), with weekly swaps as we add more formats.

Labs - JULY

Labs are experimental game modes with more extreme gameplay changes—a more light-hearted, casual take on modes.

  • The first lab debuts July 8 (patch 1.5), and involves unusual champion team ups, unpredictable strategies, and an accelerated start to the action.

Events - JULY

From time to time we’ll have special thematic events that bundle together cosmetic items, quests, and potentially a Gauntlet or Lab—a month-long celebration full of cool new stuff to check out.

  • During an event, every player will have access to a series of limited-time rewards that can be unlocked just by playing.
  • There will also be an Event Pass in the store that adds even more rewards to unlock along the way.
  • LoR’s first event takes place in July, but we’re keeping the theme under wraps for now.

New cards & regions - AUGUST

We’ve said before that each expansion will add a new region, plus more cards and champions for existing regions. But we’ve also been looking at ways to make getting that content even more impactful, and keep the meta evolving as new cards enter the mix. Our goal is to release
more cards, more frequently, creating back-to-back waves of new mechanics and champions.

  • Starting in August, we’ll introduce new cards every 2 months.
  • Every 6 months, we’ll introduce the next region.
  • Each new region will each be the focus for 3 content releases.
