Sacrificing defenders to negate attacks...help please

Submitted 3 years, 10 months ago by

Hi everyone,

I’m having a hard time figuring out the rules behind negating attacks through sacrificing your own cards.  For example, I was blocking a card with a 2/1, and transfusioned it to buff up another defender.  I thought it would leave behind that little shell to signify that the attack would be negated, but it didn’t.  IIRC, other sacrifice mechanics work just fine, like kill an ally to draw 2.  Is there a general rule of thumb to preventing attacks through sacrifice?  Does it have to be a non-burst speed?  Can it not be dmg dealing cards, like transfusion, but must kill it instead?

thank you all!

Because Transfusion is burst speed, you didn't confirm the blocker before sacrificing it. A unit is only considered "blocked" when the blocking player drags it in front of the attacker and hits "confirm". Because the unit wasn't there when you hit the button, the unit wasn't blocked.

Other sacrifice effects such as Glimpse Beyond work because they go onto the stack and wont have resolved when you hit the confirm button.

What Kansas said was accurate, you have to confirm the block before it is officially a block. This is one of the negatives about Burst speed vs Fast Speed. Also keep in mind Overwhelming will run over the defenders as if it wasn't there either. Not sure if the ghost card remains there or not, but it is something to consider.
