Hearthstone's upcoming expansion, Scholomance Academy, will be launching on August 6th, 2020 and with that, we'll have it added to the Arena's list of available expansions.

The arena will continue to not rotate sets as we saw last year, continuing the Standard trend with the following sets included in the drafting pool:

  • Basic
  • Classic
  • Rise of Shadows
  • Saviors of Uldum
  • Descent of Dragons
  • Galakrond's Awakening
  • Ashes of Outland
  • Demon Hunter Initiate
  • Scholomance Academy

What do you think about this old-new state Arena is in right now and going to be for the foreseeable future? Do you prefer Arena to be Standard only or did you enjoy the rotating sets?

I think both have their pros and cons and at this point, I might like them both equally. Being Standard only will definitely be easier for most people to get into it, but not being able to revisit some old friends (and enemies) is a shame. One thing I do miss is the 2-month rotations instead of the old 4-month ones, shorter rotations meant the meta got refreshed more often.

I suppose with a large portion of community expecting the new game mode that is to come this year to feature rotating sets in some form, the Year of the Dragon in Arena might had been a testing period for how could such an environment look like and they decided that it was enough data for now, returning to the old ways starting with Year of the Phoenix. We could even see revamp of Arena in some way with the new game mode. Who knows? Exciting things on the horizon. Or so I hope.
