Reminds me of Flame Ward. Both are aimed at board control & anti-zoo.
Except this is a bit worse since it costs more.

2-mana is more than 3?
If you want a more detailed answer:
Flame Ward does only one thing, but does it well. It also synergizes better with Arcane Flakmage for more reach & effective board removal at the cost of having to take some face damage.
Volcanomancy is more specific about it's wording. The fact they have been pushing harder for board & tempo-related Mage cards means playing this means delaying any board / tempo-based wincons.
This card is clearly aimed at early game board denial which clashes with the strong tempo cards Mage has had printed thus far. For a class that has limited board protection like Mage? This card just huffs. Even in Wild, control heavy lists would have a hard time finding much use for this since you have more damaging devalue tools in your arsenal there.
Seems alright since you can target your own minions, but I feel like Fire Sale is just the better option since it doesn't require extra ressources to activate.
Then again, maybe AoE is just that useful that you want both
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
A decent AoE spell that's marginally beaten by Fire Sale, which has the superior tradeable option available.
In many ways, this card will absolutely destroy aggro decks. Its cheap enough, and there's always the triggering factor that makes it awkward for your opponent to play more minions without having first destroy the one targeted. But its absolutely useless against nearly everything else. At least fire sale can be traded for another card.
Amazing AOE card. Play this on turn 2 against a aggro deck, and this might just force them to "waste" their burn cards on removing their own minion. After all this card can be cast on ANY minion. This card seems very strong, but Fire Sale is better later into the game and it has tradeable... Or when you play a deck with only a few minions. Volcanomancy is better if you either have some minions, or play it earlier into the game.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Very good against aggro and you can also target your own minions ! But that's it .... not sure if this will be played over other cards ...
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
Throwing this on your opponent's minion would only cause them to hesitate to attack with that one minion. Putting it on your own minion to trigger a deathrattle AND this effect has gotta be the key.
Seems solid. You can play it on a lone minion on turn 2/3 to prevent your opponent from playing anything else for a turn or two, or you can use it to turn a single target removal spell into a Hellfire for two extra mana.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Really cool way to set up a board clear. Mage's opponents will have to be wary about playing 1 Health minions, because this could be a combo board clear with the Hero Power against swarmy aggressive decks. You could also use you own minions to trade in and set up a board clear later in the game. It feels a bit situational, and Fire Sale is probably just better thanks to Tradeable, but maybe a slower Mage deck runs this also because you can never have enough board clears.
I have spoken.
This looks interesting. Closest card I can see to compare it to would be Hellfire, and that one hits everything and is twice the mana cost. This one is a bit delayed since the chosen minion has to die first. I could see this being used to disincentivize your opponent from attacking a certain minion.
I like how it is a cheap and effective way to deal with aggro and early boards. The downside, you need a minion already on board to make it work, else it is only a preventive tool for your opponent to deal with before they swarm and gain the board.
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
So for 2 more mana you can play Fire Sale and just board clear. Most times Volcanomancy would amount to 4 mana anyway if you select a 1 health minion then ping it. Guess this would only really be good when you want to stack board clears.
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
Seems like a mediocre AoE spell by itself, it does act as a deterrent against Aggro, targeting one minion to explode on a later turn, and suddenly the opponent is forced to hold back their development or try to find a way to set it off early to minimize the damage.
Hey, you heard about that Mario guy?
Strong AoE tool, so it might see play in order to stall aggro matches for a little while longer.
