Hey Guys, i play Hearthstone since Beta and i wanted the opinion from the community on this topic since i cant remember a official statement from blizzard.
Does anybody else feel like if they are about to jump from one rank to another ( rank 3 5 stars , so a win would lift you up a rank f.e.)
you automatically get matched against your worst matchup ? Horrible starthand , etc...
to sum it up - everything that can go wrong WILL go wrong ? including internet breakdown although you are connected to your wlan.
No salt over here just wondering if anybody else feels the same :)

Well the Matchmaking discussion sureley is an old one :) - every Hearthstone related Forum had it or it comes and goes every now and then! But as far as i know there is no official statement about it , only something about the MMR and how you get matched but nothing concrete.
Sure there are some people who say it is rigged and there are moments in the game you alwasy get your worst outcame etc. - but that also means that somebody (the opponent) get`s a good outcome and therefor i would say it still counts as random ...
The part about the internet breakdown ... sure there could be a Server crash but i think that is unlikely and most of the time the players internet or W-Lan had somekind of disfunction but most of the players would still say it´s Blizzards fault that they have shitty servers etc, etc, ...
Sometimes you will have bad luck and get matched against the worst match-up or draw bad and the opponent get´s the nuts - but it also happens the other way around ...
At least that are my oppinions :)
I think the matchmaking is random and not rigged - sometimes you get lucky and sometimes not :) :)

I did find a bluepost where blizzard is talking about how matchmaking is done ,they also mentioned the so called MMR. the only thing that really makes me wonder is that these kind of things seem to happen at a specific time , as mentioned above. and it feels like a law of physic that everytime you are about to bump a rank up newton kicks in...
Considering the backfire that will blown on Blizzard if such thing will ever be revealed as true, I doubt it can be real: too many people work on HS to be sure that no one could ever discover it and talk about it outside the company.
It's like those world wide conspiracy theory that cannot be real because they're too wide to possibly be kept an absolute secret.
The impression of getting paired always against a "nemesis" or to get unlucky always on a critical match is just a bias, because we remember more easily events gone bad than those gone right.

MMR is working on casual mode In ladder it is random. Or you think you get the worse matchups ergo your opponent gets a rigged best matchup on ladder?
Blizzard, a long time ago, stated that ladder matches are determined by your rank: it tries to match you with a similar rank then expands outwards until it finds a player. Legend and casual is MMR, which is based on your win/loss record.
They are on record in saying that the system does NOT use your deck or your cards in its consideration.
Note that this is enough to create the 'legendary' 50/50 win rate goal as you'll move up in rank and, thus, stronger opponents and decks until you face opponents that are as strong as you. So eventually you'll hit a spot where you will 'bob' up and down. THAT marks your combined power of your play skill and your deck selection vs the meta. In theory, if someone were to find a way to put you 10 ranks above you will quickly lose matches until you drop back down to that same old rank. Same for if you lose a mass of matches on purpose then go back to playing.
Can they create a system that tracks your decks and cards? They can. Would it mean they lied or are hiding things? Actually NO..not anymore. It's very clear that they aren't operating on any of the old phylosophies anymore so anything they've said since...say before witchwood is no longer reliable. So it IS technically possible that they changed their system and just haven't been asked about it in an AMA.
But that seems nonsense to make such a major change and NOT tell anyone. They've told us about other non-normal RNG elements such as the change to how Arena chooses your cards and how mechanics like Discover lean heavily towards class cards. So why make such a big change to matchmaking and not talk about it, especially since it's not exactly hard to test for it?
It's hard to believe that it's in effect as that'll mess with the ranking system. It also doesn't explain why most legend players can steamroll through the ranks to reach legend again (if the system forced counterdecking they would quickly face bad matchups which would slow them down, even against weaker opponents). It would also be easier to game and,thus be something top players would LOVE to look into (they already used every trick in the book to score a top spot when top spots mattered in tournament standing).
In any case, as I said, it's not hard to test for the thing. Just literally track your games over a period of time and see what opponents you face. Most deck tracking systems will do just that for you naturally. If there's an non-RNG system in place, it'll start to show a pattern.
Why trade with minions when you can face for...billions?
If you use a net deck, or simply a common general archtype that may or may not be altered by you, it means the strats behind the deck is well known to thousands of players. On top of that if the deck you're using also tends to be consistent then chances are extremely high that there are thousands more other players trying to take advantage of the meta and prey on your deck. When you take that into consideration surrounding matchmaking it really is not all that unlikely you will run into one of your bad match-ups frequently (such as a win away from a new rank floor/benchmark).
No conspiracies, merely thousands of players countering thousands of other players simultaneously.
