- Aggro Buff Priest
- Aggro Priest
This is an aggressive priest deck that is surprisingly competitive and extremely fun to play. I have been trying to make it work for a long time but with recent expansion cards it finally feels good enough to enjoy playing. In addition to a nice aggressive early curve, it has the potential to snowball board control with great buff cards (both spells and minions) and can generate a ton of value too.
In the wild meta most priests are slow big or reno priests, so many opponents will mulligan away their board clears and removal to your advantage. Playing aggro priest gives you the element of surprise.
For the mulligan, try to hit your one mana cards. Depending on if you think you will face aggro or not, Zombie Chow is an amazing start against aggro while Northshire Cleric is a good card against control or midrange as it will let you draw more cards. If you have one of the one mana cards, then try to find good turn two plays. Any card in the deck is a good followup but Power Word: Feast and Shadow Ascendant work especially well to cement board control. If you have a one and 2 cost card in the mulligan and don't have the coin, try to find a 3 cost card. If you have Sethekk Veilweaver or Shadow Ascendant as a 2 drop then Gift of Luminance is an especially great option.
The gameplan is simple, keep the board with efficient trades, minions that buff health, and buff spells, and snowball using your minions that buff every turn. As you have the board, you can start dealing damage to the opponent and eventually win. An alternate gameplan you can do is to generate a lot of value with Sethekk Veilweaver or Lyra the Sunshard and use that to help you win. It is important to look out for certain synergies when playing the deck that might work well against certain opponents.
Here are some synergies to look out for:
Northshire Cleric on the board + Power Word: Feast and a minion attack = will draw you a card at the end of the turn
Value generator cards: Sethekk Veilweaver and Lyra the Sunshard + spells will generate value for you
Board buff cards: Shadow Ascendant and Dragonmaw Overseer will buff your board each turn. Try to protect these cards with buffs, divine shields, or taunt minions as they can snowball your board over time
Gift of Luminance = amazing card for this deck from the last expansion, use it on one of the value generators (Sethekk Veilweaver into this on 3 is a great curve against slower decks) to get a lot of value from 2 copies of the generators both protected by divine shield. You can also use it to get an extra copy of the board buff cards and keep them protected.
Acolyte of Pain + Health Buff minions or other buffs = you can draw a lot of cards with Acolyte of Pain which is great as you need refills as a low curve aggressive deck
Bonechewer Brawler + Health Buff minions or other buffs = you can keep this minion alive and his attack will keep increasing
In general, your buff spells and minions that buff health help with value trades and maintain a good board state. If this deck loses the board, it is very hard to gain it back, which is why the mulligan and an aggressive start is very important.
