Hey I really love the class and even more I like combo and control decks. But I have a question. I played a few games with this deck now. Most of my enemies were Secret Mages, Dude Paladins and Murloc Shamans. I had 0 chance to win, cause they dealt like 20 damage to my face at turn 3. Am I just unlucky? Any advice how to play this deck out or how to not die on turn 4 or 5?

Hi, I would be more than happy to provide you with some advice about playing this deck... I hope it will help you out!

First of all, you could have had an unlucky streak. There is no way I can tell you right now without seeing playbacks or going more in-depth about those games you played. The decks you mentioned are not unfavored for Big Shaman, but can have explosive starts too. Receiving 20 damage by turn 3 does sound like they had insane openings. Anyways, let us start off with some general mulligan tips.

I always keep Ancestor's Call, no matter the matchup. Against Big Priest this can have undesired outcomes, but we are not sure if it is Reno Priest or not so we just do not care. Against Reno Priest it can even work like a Dirty Rat especially if you can follow it up with Devolve or Devolving Missiles. This effect is also perfect against APM Mage.

Second (almost) always keep is Lightning Bloom, because you want to combo out as fast and furious as possible. When you go second and have The Coin, very few decks can handle a normally 8+ mana cost minion on board by turn 2 which is what the deck is all about. Otherwise playing the combo before turn 6 is often times still very hard to deal with.

If you have either Ancestor's Call or Eureka! in hand, now it is time to also keep a big minion in hand. Except Muckmorpher any other minion would do, but the dream is obviously Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound. If Muckmorpher is also in your hand, you run the risk of comboing him out instead which is of course undesired. That is why I try to play him first before going off with the combo.

The turns you are not slamming face, you just try to keep the board as clear as possible with your spells, but do not overextend this because we can heal up with Healing Rain and Walking Fountain. If you still have mana left on a turn, just press the hero power button to have some decoys for your face on the board. Having weak totems on board is bad if you run into a Psychic Scream, but if that happens it will be a loss anyways.

Against Reno Priest this deck is unfavored even though it can win against them, but Lady Luck needs to be on our side. Running into Zephrys the Great is usually a horror show for us, because they will likely pick Hex, Shadow Word: Death or a cheap Silence spell. A single copy of Ancestral Spirit is in this deck to make a cheated out minion even more sticky, just in case the opponent is able to kill it.

By the way, my latest version runs Sphere of Sapience which helps out a lot if you have it in your opening turns.

PS.: I do not give deck advice or write guides often, so these tips might be a bit unstructured. I still have some more tips to share, but they are for really specific situations which require lots of text to write down. These general tips should do the trick already fine I think.

      😄

Hey! Sorry for answering that late. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your comment.

It helped me to improve with the deck and I got a positive winrate on it!

        Thank you!

Today, I replaced a Maelstrom Portal for a Sphere of Sapience to be even more efficient/consistent.

This season I only had a 9* bonus, but still cruised to Legend easily using this off meta Big Shaman list. Most opponents will expect Murloc Shaman which messes up their mulligan strategy. Obviously, keep Devolve and Devolving Missiles against Token Druid and Hand Buff Paladin. Do not overload yourself the turn prior to your combo turn. Now just dodge Reno Priest (almost unwinnable matchup), take the wins against any other deck and climb the ladder all the way to Legend.

    Good Luck & Have Fun!
