Deck Inspiration

Mind Vision Card ImageThoughtsteal Card Image

Since Thief Priest is such an intriguing idea with such a laughable execution, I wanted to make a Thief Priest deck with some flavor. For fun! (*cough* I opened a golden Griftah and didn't want to disenchant it... *cough*)

As we all know, Priest has access to many thief cards (e.g. Mind Vision, Thoughtsteal, etc.). In fact, it appears Blizzard really wants this idea to be an actual competitive archetype for Priest in Hearthstone (hence, the basic/classic cards revolving around it). Unfortunately, most of these cards are abysmal. On the other hand, they've got some awesome flavor!

The Flavor!

Because Blizzard is so good at injecting cool ideas and amazing art into Hearthstone, the Thief Priest archetype leaves itself open to lots of creative interpretation of how Lazul would create her deck to defeat her opponents and fight for the League of E.V.I.L.

Titanic Trolls

Madame Lazul Card ImagePrincess Talanji Card Image

Madame Lazul and Princess Talanji are both trolls that mesh with the Thief Priest archetype and are Priest cards (and a Priest hero!), so I wanted to take the other trolls, thieves, and Lazul themed cards and turn them into a Thief Priest deck.

Trustworthy Tricksters

Drakkari Trickster Card ImageGriftah Card Image

Drakkari Trickster and Griftah are both trolls from Rastakhan's Rumble that fit the flavor of Thief Priest, so they were my next choices after Madame Lazul and Princess Talanji. The rest of the deck consists of thief cards to further emphasize the Thief Priest archetype. However, if you are interested in using cards that don't necessarily fit the Thief Priest archetype, but add more Lazul flavor into the deck, check out my other deck (at the end of the guide) I created for standard after the March 2020 Priest rework.

Update - Descent of Dragons

Envoy of Lazul Card Image

More support for Lazul and Thief Priest came with the Descent of Dragons release! Envoy of Lazul is great flavor for this deck; however, I found that it is extremely difficult to actually get value from. I think Mindgames is likely the best candidate to be replaced for this deck since it doesn't have the Troll theme and it is just as likely to whiff as Envoy of Lazul.

Update - March 2020 Priest Rework

Psychic Conjurer Card ImageShadow Madness Card Image

Blizzard keeps trying to help Lazul and her thieving trolls out! Not only did we get more support for thief priest in the basic set, but we also got buffs to existing thief priest cards in the classic set. Psychic Conjurer is a wonderful new addition to this archetype; Thoughtsteal's reduced cost now gives us a great option on turn 2 that we never had before as priest; and Shadow Madness's cost decrease now opens up the argument that it would better fit in this deck over Mindgames.

This deck is all about the flavor, so if you aren't into that, skip this one! The main goal of this deck is just to have some fun with cards that never see play in competitive Hearthstone. However, don't let that stop you from trolling your opponents!

Good luck, and have fun!

Thanks! Since this deck is meant to be a fun deck, substituting anything that "feels" right is probably fine!

If you want to keep the Thief Priest feeling of Griftah, then Archbishop Benedictus could be a really solid replacement for Griftah. If you want some cheaper options, then Convert or Entomb still keep the "thieving" flavor. Potion of Madness, Shadow Madness, Cabal Shadow Priest, and Mind Control are other options that are more board based for your thieving.

Perhaps you want to be a little more...aggressive...with your thieving; then adding a Dirty Rat, Deathlord, Unseen Saboteur, or Hecklebot could dig into your opponent's pockets. Maybe you want to be a true thief, like Mischief Maker, and take your opponent's actual card! Or maybe you want to gamble it all on your opponent's hand with Azalina Soulthief.

If, instead, you are interested in the "troll-ing" aspect of this deck, Mojomaster Zihi works as a control card that "steals" your opponent's mana crystals. Additionally, Da Undatakah is another troll that can copy our thieving deathrattles (from Crystalline Oracle and Shifting Shade) for even more card stealing.

At the end of the day, this deck is about whatever feels right to you. So, if anything sticks out as an obvious substitute, then go for it!
