You are totally right. You don't actually need to play the duplicate, just have it in your hand.

Be careful because the Shaman deck is not full Highlander.
Make sure you cast Invocation of Frost and play Spirit of the Frog before triggering Highlander cards ;)

Dr. Boom should be OK now, I guess. You won't hero power for 7 armour as soon as you play it.
