Tamsin's Phylactery + Envoy Rustwix = Meme Dream
That Rogue set, especially the Legendaries and the SI:7 synergies, might not end up being super powerful, but goddamn flavourwise that is one of my favourite class sets they've ever produced.
Damn, I'm usually pretty optimistic but this card is quite boring. Sure it might be moderately powerful, but I honestly think a character like Anetheron deserves better than that card text tbh. Also the orphan on the second line lowkey irritates me.
As for the card, don't know how viable it is, but it is damn amazing.
God I'm gonna slap this in Priest and see how long I can keep it alive (and me in fatigue). Don't know whether this'll be good enough, but Aluneth with a body for every class seems alright.
Now we get to see why Menagerie Warden was put into the Core Set. I really like this card, great mid-game removal for Druid. Actually that's the second good removal they've got so far this set with their Mount card from yesterday.
This is like when you eat your popcorn and drink your coke during the trailers at the cinema. I legitimately thought it would start at half 5 lol.
That sounds like a really cool theme, I would love to see the Grim Guzzler in the Battlegrounds! Tbh I'm waiting until the full Quillboar set is announced later today to see how far I need to redesign the kobolds tribe. Who knows? Maybe neither of us will have to change anything.
As hyped as I am for this tribe, I am a little annoyed cos I was working on a Kobolds tribe with a very similar (if not the same mechanic) as Blood gems, where they'd generate and synergise with Candles (0 mana, give a kobold +1/+1).
I'll have to come up with a new main mechanic. All that aside, can't wait to play the Quillboars in Battlegrounds and see who we've got as heroes.
His stats were too good for the cost so I didn't want to break Battlegrounds. I did include him on the title slide of my presentation though as a nice Easter egg.
God I'm a sucker for graphs and spreadsheets. Thanks for such a deep insight into your Core Set Cheese!
I'm very excited for the deck destruction archetype, great meme and Neeru Fireblade is exactly the kind of card I wanted to see.
On a side note, you left this in the conclusion section "Talk about what you're excited about, anything else to wrap everything up."
Great article though, looking forward to seeing what your takes are on the other classes.
*Screams in Combo Deck*
Well I'm sure Rogues are gonna have a lot of fun next expansion. Everyone else, not so much😂😂
At least it's not Muff Runetotem lol
Well this triggers my ptsd
Thank you, that's what I was aiming for with this. Now that the actual Core Set has been fully revealed, it's got me hyped for some archetypes hopefully coming this year. I'm particularly excited about the Silver Hand Recruit stuff coming in Paladin (hence why I put some in my set).
See, this is a tricky thing. I have had similar problems when reading cards that are in the actual game in terms of what effect is temporary and what effect is permanent. When designing this, it became apparent that I was going to struggle to fit the card text on to less than four lines. The intention of this card is that the Stealth is only until your next turn, but the +1 Attack buff is permanent. If I made a distinction between this on the card, then I might've gone to five lines of text which I personally think looks quite ugly.
Thank you for the feedback, I hope this clears this up for you.
I understand what you mean about there being no realistic way to play around it. When designing it, I considered it to be like a Rogue version of Snipe. Patient Stab is quite bad against token summon decks like Druid and Paladin but much better against tempo, on-curve decks. I do personally think it's balanced but I do understand the criticism.
As for a nerf to Zilliax, I feel the only thing I would personally want to do to the card is remove the Magnetic effect, just leaving it as a survivability tool in the midgame, but that takes away so much of the flavour of the card, and I never really felt like it was broken when it was Standard before; really powerful but not broken.
Thank you for the feedback though, appreciate it.
Now Val'anyr brings up another potential point. Do you think Team 5 would want to exclusively use Legendary minions for the core set? Assuming they only do 1 Legendary per class, having a spell or weapon as the Legendary may remove the character aspect from the core set, despite having cool and unique designs.
For instance, one of the Legendary spells from the Boomsday Project could be awesome or obviously a Legendary weapon from Kobolds & Catacombs. I feel like they would go exclusively for legendary minions but who knows?
