Thank you for the feedback guys. I've updated the tribe in accordance with what you've said. As for the Kobold tribe, the main mechanic of Candles was the same as Blood Gems, with some of the supporting minions being almost identical to the Quilboars. It wasn't like 100% the same, more like 70% but it was enough to make me change things up. I still want to revisit the Kobolds some day, just with a different design that feels more unique. As a cool side-note though, Kobolds had Taunt-hate as a small mechanic (getting more Attack when attacking Taunt minions) which I've kept in the Nagas in the form of Shellshock Breaker.

    Change Log

    Show Spoiler

-Zola the Gorgon replaced with Zola, Golden Witch (Tavern Tier 5, 6/6, "If you have two non-Golden copies of a minion in your warband, the third copy of it costs (0).")

-Updated Golden versions of Starving Seahunter, Reservoir Spearman, Venom Lasher and Knight of the Conch to keep the same Attack thresholds as regular versions.

-Reservoir Spearman stats changed (3/3 to 2/4).

-Golden Reservoir Spearman stats changed (6/6 to 4/8)

-Naga Myrmidon text changed (was "Taunt, Deathrattle: Give adjacent minions +2 Attack." now "Battlecry: Give adjacent minions +1/+1. If they're Nagas, they get an extra +1 Attack.")

-Lord Slitherspear's Hero Power cost lowered from 2 to 1

I mean this is fantastic, if you couldn't tell by my name I'm a fan of a certain rock band, so this expansion really spoke to me. I love all the references to song names or band names (Black Sa'bat being a particular favourite of mine. The power level is dangerously high, and so it should be, we're designers first, balancers second. I love all the extra bits you've included and the art you've made yourself, truly spectacular job you've done here. Well done!

Ha, two battlegrounds projects within a day of each other, nice coincidence! I really really like this, changing Bob's Tavern (he will be missed) to the Grim Guzzler is such a cool idea. I like your Dark Iron tribe, it feels different enough to the Quillboars to be cool, and flavour wise its a whole other kettle of fish. Your heroes are cool and unique and I like the expansion of Frenzy as a mechanic within Battlegrounds. Great job!

Right, I've got another tribe here, but instead of doing it on a PowerPoint as per usual, I'm just gonna do the traditional method of putting the cards on this post behind the spoilers. The Quilboar tribe was fully revealed the other day which forced me to scrap my other tribe, the Kobolds, due to how staggeringly similar they were. This led me back to square one, and then suddenly, Nagas came to mind as a potential new tribe.

The Nagas mainly function around one mechanic, surpassing Attack thresholds. The simplest card to demonstrate this idea is the Starving Seahunter, which gains Windfury once it reaches, or surpasses, the 5 Attack threshold. This effect will only go off once on the minion, similar to a delayed Battlecry. We also have minions with repeatable Attack triggers, such as the Advance Hydroguard or the Swamplands Stalker.

There is also a small synergy within the tribe related to Golden cards, which was partially inspired by the inclusion of a new version of Zola the Gorgon (Zola, Golden Witch). Goldscale Temptress is the other synergy with Golden minions.

Thank you for looking at this tribe!

That sounds like a really cool theme, I would love to see the Grim Guzzler in the Battlegrounds! Tbh I'm waiting until the full Quillboar set is announced later today to see how far I need to redesign the kobolds tribe. Who knows? Maybe neither of us will have to change anything.

As hyped as I am for this tribe, I am a little annoyed cos I was working on a Kobolds tribe with a very similar (if not the same mechanic) as Blood gems, where they'd generate and synergise with Candles (0 mana, give a kobold +1/+1).

I'll have to come up with a new main mechanic. All that aside, can't wait to play the Quillboars in Battlegrounds and see who we've got as heroes.

I wanted to bring Demon Hunters back to the Demon Hunter class for FitB, instead of the pretty strange use of the Quillboar. This acts as like a Stormstrike for Demon Hunters, being pretty decent midgame removal/face damage/board presence.

Right this week is a bit of a challenge, but I'll try my best. I've got two ideas for Gangplank, both involve the idea of detonating his Powder Kegs. The first version doesn't specifically mention the Powder Kegs, but is much simpler and easier on the eye. The second version is pretty much identical to the Bomb Warrior stuff, but with a more powerful explosion. I'll do feedback later, as this time I'll probably be focusing less on flavour (because of my unfamiliarity with the game) and more on balance so it'll take some time.

Okay, thanks for the feedback everyone! I've altered the cost and stats of Chaotic Notetaker to a 5-cost 4/4 to address the issue of activating Supreme Archaeology too early and consistently. I personally believe that the higher cost, the fact it's spellburst so it actually requires two cards to activate the effect (the notetaker himself plus a spell, thus reducing the total amount of cards  the effect redraws) makes this card more balanced. Hope you all agree too.

I mean, this is what Brightwing should’ve been. Really forces the opponent (and you if you haven’t built your deck right) to go down a minion combat route for removal, or just massive board clears, or even to go face. Yeah, I really like this card.

    Linkblade91

Big Paladin is my favourite deck (not the broken from Darkmoon Races, the less good one) and this really kicks it into gear. I’m assuming you summon your own minions and your opponent summons theirs and it’s not a random mashup? Honestly, hands down, favourite card so far.

God the card-copying f***ing sucks dude, maybe one solution could be to include “reading the discussion thread, even if you don’t participate in the actual discussion itself” as part of the common ruleset in each competition. I don’t know how to actively solve the issue but this sort of discourages card-copying.

As for the card itself, I quite like this. Temporary disabling of your opponent’s hero power is neat, but obviously the drawback is that you disable yours too temporarily. Makes me think of Mindbreaker. Honestly, nice card.

    Here are my two ideas:

    Show Spoiler

I’m not a huge lover of permanently replacing your opponent’s Hero Power (without some kind of combo or deckbuilding restriction at least) so personally I would like to see this with a turn limit effect (for instance 3 turns) for each player. I like the idea of the Hero Power though, pretty neat card but I think just a little bit powerful.

Congrats on the win for last week! As for this card, I really like this effect in Warlock, forcing yourself down to a low life total and then bringing your opponent down whilst you go back up. The art does feel a little off to me, was thinking something akin to the Princes from KFT in terms of art would feel like a better match? Pretty good card.

    Sinti

I’m inclined to agree with you that Eagle Eyes is the best, and I love the effect. Very solid card indeed.

    Grumpymonk

I think I like Fair Student Cincaria the best out of these two, plays into the Demon Hunter being able to manipulate their own hand about to get Outcast effects more easily. Plus it matches the disruption theme of Scholomance for DH, as a replacement for Stelina, it does a great job.

    ChickyChick

Great name for the card cos I think Balance Keeper is actually the most balanced of the three! Very cool card, love the effect.

    YourPrivateNightmare

    Show Spoiler
I like this, but I feel like the effect needs to be toned down a little. I know that card information is often overestimated in Hearthstone, but making it permanent just doesn’t seem like a fun idea to me. I think maybe bumping up the cost and stats a little, and having this as a passive effect would be more balanced in my eyes.

    anchorm4n

My only criticism of this card is that, I believe in Rastakhan’s Rumble, all discards were “lowest-Cost” so this doesn’t really match that expansions twist on the mechanic. Other than that, pretty awesome card.

    H0lysatan

    Show Spoiler
A couple of notes, the name does not feel particularly legendary, so maybe change this to the name of a character. Aside from that just a couple of grammatical errors for instance, you don’t need the word “now” and also you should put a full stop at the end of the card text. Really cool idea though.

    Karmin

This is one of my favourites so far, the flavour is awesome and the effect is so cool. One thing to note, is that spell schools were not around in classic, and it would probably be best to either remove the spell school or change the watermark to the Year of the Gryphon watermark, either way, very nice card.

His stats were too good for the cost so I didn't want to break Battlegrounds. I did include him on the title slide of my presentation though as a nice Easter egg.

Explorer's Blimp is a little bit confusing. When you draw a "duplicate card", what is the card of a duplicate of? A card in your hand, your deck, on the field? It has very weird flavor too given that the Explorers are supposed to be about not having duplicates in your deck.

The way Explorer's Blimp was intended to work was as follows: If you have multiple copies of a card in your deck, draw one of those copies.

Effectively, it tutors cards from your deck to potentially leave you with a deck full of singletons, allowing your Highlander cards to come online much more consistently in decks which run multiple copies of cards.

I do think the wording of the card could do with a bit of work myself, but I'm unsure how to clarify the effect without going over 4 lines of text.

Here are my two ideas so far:

    Feedback

    Show Spoiler

Wailor: I think this needs just a little bit of a re-tune on the effect, perhaps making it more like Chain Lightning (Rank 1). I would definitely stick with the reduced statline of your second version though. Overall, pretty decent card.

Demonxz95: Overall, I prefer Sheep Cannon to Mini Rag, the flavour of the card is just hilarious and it provides a pretty cool ping effect for classes that need it. Possibly too easily abused by Librams in Paladin, but nowhere near as toxic as Pen Flinger so it's probably fine.

grumpymonk: Congrats on the win for the last competition! As for these cards, I'm not a massive fan of taxation effects (hence my vitriol towards Far Watch Post atm) so I'm not a lover of your second card. As for the Dreadmist Watch Post, I think it's pretty good. I might lean towards changing the trigger to playing a minion rather than just a card, just for minor flavour reasons but idk. Neat card.

linkblade91: Absolute ridiculousness and I love it! Honestly not got anything negative to say about this, it's great.

DestroyerR: I like the effect, great flavour match. The only thing for me is that the art doesn't necessarily look like a watch post and is more like a full blown mage tower if not castle so maybe consider changing the art? I've found a few pieces if you want me to DM them to you.

anchorm4n: I kinda like this version of Rag, but it doesn't feel particularly unique tbh. Also I'm uncertain if this was intended or not, but with the way it's currently worded, you would keep the +8 Attack permanently, so maybe add a "this turn only" condition to it?

Nirast: I much prefer the Rusted Harvester out of the two cards. The only thing for me is that the Armor effect seems pretty pointless and makes the card text box look a bit overcrowded imo. Love the flavour though and I enjoy a good Treant card.

Right, I'm happy with the new iteration of my card, feels pretty good with the changes I think! I'm also doing feedback here for everyone at the time of writing.

    Demonxz95

    Show Spoiler
I really like this, super different to most other Hunter Secrets in terms of this being more control-oriented.
I feel like at the moment, Drunhei is a little too difficult to get through, I'd probably reduce the stats to an 8/8
and maybe remove the Divine Shield. I'm not too sure though, this could be fine as is. Really cool flavour though.

    Wailor

    Show Spoiler
Honestly, I'm not really a fan of this. I think 5 Mana is a pretty steep cost for something that can be pretty easily played around. Especially in isolation, if this was the only secret in the set, I'd know to just ping face and then
go from there. I don't want to come across as too harsh, but I just feel that there are quite a lot of challenges
    for this card.

    Fedrion

    Show Spoiler
I really love this design. This and Rigged Faire Game present such a challenge for your opponent to figure out. The effect really fits the flavour of the card and that art is super cool, great job!

    linkblade91

    Show Spoiler
Once again, the flavour here is fantastic (so much good flavour this week so far). I really like this effect in Hunter, really forces your opponent to either not deal much damage in a turn or deal with a lot of extra stats over time. I think the only thing that potentially hurts this is a lack of draw for Hunter, meaning it's difficult to extract
much value from this in a short time span. The only other thing I'll say is that the wording of the trigger seems a
little off, I would say "When your hero receives 6 or more damage in a turn", otherwise, great design.

    Lundy

    Show Spoiler
I like the art, but I'm just not sure that Yogg Cakes translate very well into "praising" him. As for the design, I just feel this is a bit derivative of Yogg himself. I really like the idea of a Yogg Secret, but I think it's already been done
with Oh My Yogg!, so maybe a focus on another Old God like C'Thun considering Mage got Mask of C'Thun?

    KANSAS

    Show Spoiler
Brilliant design, I really enjoy the call back to the Death Knight cards, and this feels super powerful without
being broken. The only thing I would say, is the wording of the trigger seemed a little confusing to me, you could
possibly change it to "After your opponent kills three of your minions" but honestly it's not a major problem.

    R

    Show Spoiler
This definitely feels befitting of a Legendary, but I worry that this essentially Time Warp without the Quest and for 3 Mana. And then other times, your opponent just plays on curve and this does nothing at all. The binary nature of this card's power is a bit offputting to me. That said, I'm not sure how you could balance it. Really cool idea though.

    shatterstar1998

    Show Spoiler
I think Wormhole is my favourite of the bunch, so I'm gonna discuss that one. Love the connection to Boomsday, with Mage in that expansion being all about space and non-quest Legendary spells being introduced in that expansion. I feel that it could be reduced in power slightly, and maybe made slightly more interactive. If you change it to "After a friendly Secret is revealed" I think I'd like it more. Maybe also reduce the number of Secrets cheated out to 2. Very cool idea though.

    grumpymonk

    Show Spoiler
I'm unsure what a spell called Tricks of the Trade would have to do with Treasure hunting tbh. I feel like the card could do with a rename. Also, I would definitely put this Kobolds & Catacombs over a custom set, it really belongs there. What with the card being themed around treasure and Rogue secrets being introduced in that expansion, it seems like a perfect fit. Otherwise, great idea.

    anchorm4n

    Show Spoiler
I really like the flavour of this card, the only thing for me is that it feels like a Priest card mechanically but
with Hunter flavour so there's a bit of a disconnect for me that way. I'd still probably give this card a good rating
but maybe not the full 5 just because of this.

    Dermostatic

    Show Spoiler
Well this is quite the powerful card. One thing to note is that this essentially punishes your opponent for the same thing as Plagiarize so you could be gaining value and tempo if you played these together. This seems like a
Netherwind Portal that's just always better tbh, 1 less Mana and at worst case, you get a 4/4 every time. Best case
you could be getting unebelievable tempo. I think there's quite a big balance issue here, I know 4/4 is an iconic
Nerubian statline, but I wouldn't mind at all if you changed the stats for the sake of balance.

    BasilAnguis

    Show Spoiler
Jesus, Mary and Jospeh the value! I think the numbers may need a wee bit of adjusting on this one just to reign it in a little, but it is quite close to being balanced. I don't think this card belongs in Classic, but come to think of it, where would it belong? Rise of Shadows or possibly Scholomance Academy spring to mind.

Yeah when you put it like that, 15 Health doesn't seem so bad as a restriction. Also just realised, I've got a Spell School when I've done a past expansion. I should probably remove that lol.

This prompt is probably my favourite in recent memory. Quite difficult as obviously there isn't really precedent for this in the game. This properly forced me to think and this is what I've come up with. There are a couple of things I'm unsure of with regards to this card, first of all being whether 10 Health is the correct restriction, my gut says this could go to 12 or even 15 and still be okay. My other point of contention is the watermark, I've initially gone for TGT but there are a couple of others I'm considering, namely Whispers of the Old Gods or Rise of Shadows. Other than that, I think I'm pretty happy with the card.

I'm very excited for the deck destruction archetype, great meme and Neeru Fireblade is exactly the kind of card I wanted to see.

On a side note, you left this in the conclusion section "Talk about what you're excited about, anything else to wrap everything up."

Great article though, looking forward to seeing what your takes are on the other classes.

cydonianknight - The card looks interesting at first, but the deathrattle ends up being a very conditional form of poisonous. It only works when your opponent decides to attack into it, and only if its kills the minion. A 3 mana 1/4 taunt poisonous minion would just be okay in terms of power level, and this is quite a bit weaker than that. I would try to make the card more impactful.

Cheers for the feedback. I've got two ideas on where to take the Coated Marshroom from here. The first is to just reduce the initial design down to 2 Mana, and possibly adjust it's Health to 3 if 4 Health is too much (comparing to Stubborn Gastropod. The other idea is the one below, which does have a lot more impact, potentially killing 2 minions for 1 at 4 Mana.

Thank you for feedback on my Sklibb card, it seems that while there are some balance issues with the card, the main problem seems to be the flavour.

I must admit, not a lot of thought went into the card last night, I came back with fresh eyes this morning and decided to go for a different card altogether which hopefully fares a little better in terms of flavour and balance.

I like the simplicity of this card and I agree that this feels much better as a Shaman card than Mage. The thing is, four Mana is a lot to give up early on in the game when you would want to play this to get maximum value. Better in the late game, but still not able to extract much value from it. I am torn as to whether I feel the Mana cost should be lower or not. Still think it's a pretty good card though.

Love this card, think it's brilliant. Just a couple of tiny details for me that need changing: I think it's spelled "Mandragora" rather than "Madragora" and I think instead of the phrase "It attacks it" you could maybe change this to "This attacks it". Otherwise, wonderful card.

Neat effect on the card, lovely callback to your custom class. The only thing for me, is that the size of the character in the art and the size of the stats feel a little mismatched. I'm unsure of what statline you would make this, but definitely at least 4 attack instead of 2. I do enjoy the synergy with the warrior quest though.

Bloody hell am I unsure of the balance of this one. We've seen from Professor Slate that this effect hasn't broken the game in any way, but Hunter is a different ball game as a class than Rogue. Despite all that though, this is 5 mana and 2 cards to destroy a minion. I think it could probably go down to 3, but I've honestly not got a clue. All I know is, I love Razorpetals.

I think your change to the card has brought it to a more balanced place. I still think 7 Mana is the best spot for the card, you need to draw the Squashlings and have them die to extract much value from your card. I do think you've readdressed the issues with the initial card brilliantly.
