For example there is Russian legion "Freedom for Russia" (and I've met more than one russian not from this legion, who have joined Ukrainian forces) as well as "Belarus" tactical group who are fighting for Ukraine to stop russian invasion and depose the autoritarin regimes of their countries. Those people are risking the most valuable thing they have - their lives - to fight for the right cause and they have my deepest respect.
But since it's technically a democracy in Russia and actions of the state is determined by the actions of majority of it's people, I will talk about that.
The war continues and there are two possible reasons for this: 1) Majority of russian people support the war; or 2) Majority of russian people can't or don't want to stop Putin's autoritarian regime.
Tbh, I think both statements are true.
1) I think it's impossible to send HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of armed troops to occupy foreign land if there is no wide support for thins thing in the society. I doubt it was Putin's personal order for missile attack on Kramatorsk rail station where thousands of civilians were waiting for evacuation, or for missile attack on public square and concert hall in Vinnitsa, or bombardment of Mariupol theatre where hundreds of civilians were killed. Hundreds of Ukrainian kids were killed in this war. Also I'm certain it wasn't Putin's order to shoot civilians on the streets or cut of prisoners' head or genitals, or whip them to death, or drill their kneecaps (there are video evidences for all this and many other things, but I won't post links here ofc). It's russian people commiting those crimes.
2) As for the second statement I don't need to say much (and it looks like we both agree on this one). Russian people had 30 years to make democratic changes, but they were too apathetic or too scared.
The war will eventually end but how many people will have to die till then? I doubt russian politics will change after the war, since it didn't change for the last 300 years after countless wars Russia begins. I don't want to live with russian terrorists on the same planet, not talking about the nearby country. To stop ths circle of violence russian people have to change, to give up their imperial ambitions, to start speaking their minds, take responsibility and take actions. Or we will have change them.
According to Article 3 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation the bearer of sovereignty and the only source of power in the Russian Federation is its multinational people. Russian people are the only source of power in Russia, but they have ZERO influence on russian politics.
