    Hearthstone Battlegrounds

Do you remember those times, when you went for a murloc comp, you played Gentle Megasaur alongside Brann Bronzebeard, you highrolled into the poisonous and divine shield adaptations and you thought to yourself "gg"? A few minutes ago I experienced something similar:

    Show Spoiler

My last card was Annoy-o-Module at that time, but I changed it to Righteous Protector, in order to play around a possible Zapp Slywick. As you can imagine, I won every single match from this moment on and I didn't even change my board (with the exception of the aforementioned tech card). My opponents weren't weak, mind you - especially not Patches, that had a board full of 50+ statted pirates.

Thanks for the tips, guys, but after reading Flux's recent article I decided to hoard the accumulated gold for the time being.

Thanks again. I appreciated your feedback.

    Hi, all.

So, up until yesterday I had saved around 9.2k gold for SA packs. My only wish was to obtain Illucia and after opening 80 packs (including freebies), I finally got her. Right now I have 2k gold remaining and I don't feel like buying any more packs - my current legendaries are Infiltrator Lilian (freebie), Ace Hunter, Malicia, Ras and Illucia. Normally I would like to have Alabaster, Polkelt and Sphere as well, but I am not that likely to open another legendary, yet alone one of the desired three in the next 20 packs. So, I considered the following options: Buying two wings of an adventure or the BG-bundle. And right now I just can't decide what I should go after.

From the pve adventures I only want Naxx tbh, but since I missed the chance to buy the first wing, I can't use gold to purchase it, so that's out of the question. I considered whether I wanted to buy BrM and ONiK and I figured, it's not worth to do it for the sake of new cards, since most of them don't see any play and the ones, that do, are so derp cheap, that I can craft them easily with dust. This led me to the following options - GA or the dungeon-run adventures in RoS/SoU. Now, my goal is mainly to have fun. I have heard, that GA was a bit underwhelming and it didn't offer much replayability, so I am leaning towards the other picks, but I would like to hear your opinion on those three adventures.

Regarding the BG-bundle: I play bgs casually. My rating is 6.3k, so you can see, that I am not that devoted to it. It was another thing I decided to buy due the fun factor.

So, those are my options. I would like to hear what you guys think and what you could recommend me. Btw, I am aware, that I could save my gold for the next expansion, but I think I will accumulate enough, when it hits. Not to mention, I am not in the mood for such long-term investments.

thought LoR is a place where players can't be f**** a****, however it becomes for whatever brainless reasons more and more popular, that players wait each and every round until time (nearly) runs out to make you quit. they won't be automatically marked as "toxic/afk" because they don't wait until time completely runs out to make their play. I understand in some rounds you need time to go through all the options, but not EVERY ROUND!

we need an option to report those players ingame. i play unranked and experience those situations at least twice a week, can't imagine how hard it is to deal with such idiots in ranked....

In HS this does not happen often to me but it helps to rope them back

Personally I wouldn't recommend that. I tried that trick once and it didn't stop the roper from roping me. Seeing, that I was going to waste too much time in that game, I continued playing normally, while the opponent still roped. I lost like 20-30 minutes needlessly (and I am not talking about the duration of the game itself).

Holy fucking shit! I saw sth similar in a Fullas Gaming video in the past and even they said, that the effect was too OP. I would have never believed, that it would be released. This goes straight into my Steal Priest and it's not even a meme card. I can finally disrupt the opponent's combo by playing the combo pieces from hand.

Since I play wow (wotlk), I am certain, that the soul fragments are a reference to the soul shards, a secondary resource for warlocks, that they used for some abilities - like summoning demons. Those items were present even in vanilla wow, way before the horcruxes were introduced to the public.

    https://wow.gamepedia.com/Soul_Shard_(item)

Oh, btw warlocks could use the soul shards to create healthstones - conjured items, that restored health. So the connection to the mmo is a strong one.

Ok, imagine this being used against Tempo Rogue - you rush this minion against the opponent's X/X Edwin VanCleef or Questing Adventurer, it will survive the hit and will become a nuisance for the opponent. I can also see it being used against some weak taunts - Overconfident Orc, but other than that I don't like how the card gets stopped by taunt. Maybe that's the needed downside to keep it balanced, but personally I wouldn't run it in every meta. Also, let's not forget, that in some cases you will sacrifice this minion for the silence effect, which would be similar to a "3 mana spell, that silences a minion and deals two damage to it", making this a worse Earth Shock in that specific scenario.

So, I don't think it's that crazy overpowered. It's just situationally good.

A total tech card.  But this can certainly disrupt control decks really hard, especially Priest and Warlock decks as they rely on being able to control their hand... and this card just resets their hard work at manipulating that.

The caveat to that is obvious, you go against Face Hunter and you're resetting their hand of hate for you.

The only real question I have is in situations when someone had triggered cards like Dragonqueen Alexstrasza or Galakrond, the Nightmare, will those card remain a cost of (1), or will it get reset?  I would imagine that it would have the same effect as [Hearthstone Card (Shirvallah, the Tiger) Not Found] as those cards directly state that they will change the cost of the card to (1).  Guess we will find out.

Think of Glide as Plot Twist in quest Malygos warlock. If you have 0-cost cards in hand, but you decide to play Plot Twist, those cards will regain their normal cost, when you draw them. I know this, because I used to play Quest Warlock back in RoS and I tested this interaction myself. So, if someone plays Glide, you should expect, that the dragons from Dragonqueen Alexstrasza or the cards from Galakrond, the Nightmare would lose their cost reduction. But this won't be the only case for combo disruption - think of Emperor Thaurissan or Imprisoned Satyr. Decks, that utilize those cards, will be hit heavily.

[Hearthstone Card (Shirvallah, the Tiger) Not Found] works differently - it doesn't require to be in hand, in order to get a mana decrease. If it had the same text as Jumbo Imp or Corridor Creeper, it would have lost its mana reduction upon getting shuffled back into the deck.

Wow, I really despise this card. As people have already mentioned, this spell can mess up with the opponent's hand. If I, as a control deck, keep a board clear for a specific turn, the DH opponent can play this card and I might not be able to draw the AoE on time, so I would most likely die. But this spell has another effect - it negates cost reduction in hand. Combo decks, that rely on cheaper cards, will get countered heavily.

This spell reminds me of Divine Favor - in a way that it punishes the opponent for having a large hand, while it rewards the aggro player with extra resources, but this is even more stupid.

I just want to see a priest-rogue card, that revolves around thieving. Both classes share this theme, so it's not far fetched imho.

Thanks for the informative video. I followed the tips and managed to hit 1st place with a menagerie deathrattle build. You were right, having a tier 6 unit by turn 8 was really strong. I wouldn't have played like that, hadn't I watched the video.

Btw I don't think I have any problems with the so called tech cards - I am aware of Zapp and his counters, I am also aware of ghoul's presence and how it's being used to get rid of divine shields (*cough* murlocs *cough*). Poisonous minions like Maexxna are picked against beefy demons/dragons/pirates. Speaking of demons, in the past I have sold my Mal'ganis a bunch of times, whenever my opponents used Zapp against my juggler.

I am also aware of the "murloc" transition, i.e. when my only chance of winning the game is to sell my entire board and go for poisonous, divine shield murlocs.

So, as you can see, I am aware of these late-game tactics. I just don't know what to do in the mid-game.

    Hey, all.

As the title suggests, I am kinda inexperienced, when it comes to hs battlegrounds, and I would appreciate some tips on how to improve my gameplay. Very often I feel like I am making crucial mistakes in the mid game, only because I don't know how to manage my board, how to position some minions and what direction I should take.

Before I continue, I would like to clarify, that I am not interested in achieving a high rating. I just want to try out the cool late-game builds more often. However, I don't always get good or synergistic minions at start and I have absolutely no clue what to buy, in order to increase my chances to survive. In some cases I feel like I am receiving too much damage (cuz my build is probably weak) and I decide to roll and find better minions to replace the current weaker ones instead of upgrading my tavern tier. The problem is, that sometimes I don't get anything good and I fall behind even more so than before.

I wish I could've shared some of my games with you, in order to be more specific, but, sadly, I don't use a deck tracker. Though, I could try to remember some minion choices and mention them here. Before I continue, I would like to add, that I am following the general strategy for the first few rounds: On turn 1, I buy either a token generator or a well-statted minion. On turn 2, I usually upgrade my tier. On turn 3, I sell the bought minion and buy two new ones (if the presented choices are better than my tier 1 minion, that is). If the presented choices are overall weak, then I reroll and try to find a good addition. On turn 4, I usually buy two minions. On turn 5, I upgrade my tavern tier and buy a minion. From there onwards (up until I reach the fifth tier), things become confusing for me. Sometimes I can't evaluate which minion from a certain tribe underperforms and needs to be replaced. This becomes more apparent, when I get stuck with a menagerie build.

    Show Spoiler

Example 1: Yesterday on turn 4 I had the possibility to buy two from these three minions - harvest golem, gambler and imprisoner. I picked the latter two, because I thought I needed a taunt and I could always replace the pirate with a more synergistic minion. I think the demon was a good choice, but the 3/3 pirate didn't prove to be that useful. A few rerolls later, I saw a replicating menace, which would have been used as an argument to go for the golem.

Example 2: In one game, I had really shitty minion offerings on turn 4. Like, the only good minion was the 2/2 bomb; all others were pogo-level bad. So I considered upgrading my tavern tier instead. I don't remember how the game went for me, but what do you think of this play?

Like I said, I get confused with the minion positioning too. Normally I put the stickier minions in front of the more fragile ones, because they can take several hits. The exceptions are minions, that I use to get rid of divine shields from taunts, being in front, provocative minions (soul juggler) being last and deathrattles that fall in one of those categories. I am also very careful with the taunt positioning, in order to play around cleave, and I try to have only one taunt. But there are many other exceptions to those rules, which I am not knowledgeable in. Like, where should I put poisonous minions? Or big taunts? - I have seen streamers putting them first and last. Where do I keep a hydra in a goldrin-macaw build - after the macaw or the goldrin? I have seen some streamers putting their cleave between both goldrins.

I am sure I am missing a lot more things to talk about, so your help will be much appreciated. I don't consider myself a beginner, I think I just need more advanced tips. If you understood my case and know some helpful links, I will gladly check them out.

Yea, I don´t get it either. In may I finished D5 in Wild and D1 in Standard - got 9 stars for both, all good. Last season I didnt have much free time to play, so I finished  Plat 3 on Standard and only Gold 5 on Wild... I expected to get 7 stars for Standard and 5 for Wild... But to my surprise I still got 9 stars for both ladders just like the previous season.. Is it intended? Aren´t we suppose to lose stars if we derank previous season?

It's intended. It was stated, that skipping one season won't affect your mmr whatsoever. If you decide to idle for a longer period of time, however, it will decrease slowly.

Yeah, link is right. This is only temporary; you will get your old emote back, once the event finishes.

Btw, if you want to feel better about the "Let it burn" emote, I would suggest watching the following video.

    Alright, so I finally got round to finishing the adventure. Here's a few thoughts;

    - The rhymes are neat, and I'd imagine it couldn't have been easy to write and make it work. There's some hit and misses but overall, I'm a little impressed. Unfortunately, its one thing to hear a rhyme, its quite another to hear the same fucking thing over and over each time you're forced to restart. They just get in the way of your game and there are some sequences that last more than my patience can take. Wish blizz would just get rid of all the dialogue on the second time playing.

    - Its not a dungeon run where you build your deck, so that's a little less interactivity there. But it does mean that team5 has better control of what you get so you're not facing Jaraxxus with a bs deck that can never win. But it also means there's less stakes involved. You can easily just cheese each battle by restarting until you get the perfect hand i.e. mostly if you can get a 2 drop on 2, or get one of your outcasts heros you're pretty much going to win (if you can get karnuk to spawn that imprisoned antaen on curve, the match is heavily in your favor from there). Also it eliminates most of the replayability, since you're essentially playing the same deck on the same boss.

    - Story is bland, like really bland. Spoilers ahead, so if you don't care about the story just click below.

    Show Spoiler

So we follow the adventures of Arrana, sister to Elise Starseeker, who for reasons only known to her, travels to the dangerous world of outland to do…something…and on her travels saves, meets, and groups together with alleged outcasts of various races/species and for very unconvincing reasons decides to ride to the black temple to accomplish…uhhh…power and success? a place to call home? to have a cup of coffee? Self evident reasons, I guess.

Half way down the line, Baduu, who by the way just joined up like 2 missions ago, decides that she doens't want to join up with Illidan (probably because she recognizes how vacuous the idea seems to be) and leaves. And the way the game portrays this is to fix it so she is drawn into your hand on turn 5-6 (cant remember) and is promptly removed from your hand. And if you lose that fight, you get to see this over and over again until you win. I don't get why this isn't handled outside of the battle or at the end of the battle so technically you're only going to see this once. As it stands, I've seen her leave like 3 times in my playthrough, so whatever emotions I have for her (which is nill, since we only seen her like twice. I've never even got to play her for fuck sake) is just dragged through the mud until I just wanted to get it over with.

Then you meet Illidan, and he trains you to be dhunters. Apparently the process involves you fighting each other until you lose your eyes and sprout horns on your head. I'm no lore expert in WoW, but I'm pretty sure this is not how one becomes a demon hunter.

So with better powers she fights through the rusted legion, defeats Jaraxxus with the power of friendship, and ONLY THEN she realised that Illidan's a bit of a nutter. She then fight him, and depending on your luck she might actually beat him but I've heard it doens't really matter (I did it on my first try, so I couldn't confirm if its a supposed to lose fight) and by your stark powers of reasoning actually made him see the error of his ways. Which is entirely bs to be honest.

The best way to describe the story is that it feels safe. It pulls no punches and takes no risks. Suffice to say you're the good guy fighting the bad guys. No attempts have been made to make Arrana or the other outcasts even slightly relatable, likable, or unique. It almost feels disney-esque; a heroine (because of course it is) with a rag-tag group of diverse races, genders and religions complete with mascot-like comedic sidekick for that sweet merch sales, fighting against a self-evident and proudly villainous bad guy.

    - Arrana as a character is paper thin and about as relatable as a piece of cardboard. Her motives to become a demon hunter is almost nonexistent; her motives in general for risking life and limb in outland is nill, other than the vague "must be better than my sis" thing. Almost no effort has been made to make Arrana feel weak or remotely human; she literally becomes leader of a group of similar cardboard cutouts from the outset, beats foes with merciless ease, highly intelligent, and even manages to out-argue the lord of angst himself. From this adventure, it seems like Aranna can do anything. And we are led to belief that her sister Elise can do even more. One wonders why they haven't just team up and be queens of Azeroth yet.

    - Is it fun? Well, its something. I confess its not entirely bad or boring. But I won't be coming back for more, unfortunately. Its not as engaging as the final boss battle against Hagatha in Witchwood (probably the best way a story is handled in hearthstone), not as fun as Rastakhan's adventure (which I think the character Rikkar is a better character and features a better story than this), and there's no fun villain like in KotFT and Naxx.

Quite a forgettable experience, but hey at least its free.

I agree with most what you said. I think the reason why Baduu ditched her team in the Black Temple was because of the history of the Draenei. I believe she didn't want to train in a formerly sacred, now a blemished place and become that, what she despised.

She saw Illidan as yet another tyrant influenced by demons and didn't want to have anything in common with him. Now, this spills other questions - like why didn't she try to assassinate him in the BT? If she wanted to leave so badly, why didn't she leave before going in? I mean, Elise Aranna told her group where they were heading to, why was she surprised? If she was disgusted by Illidan's doings and the actions of his trainees, why didn't she stop Aranna's group after hearing about their plans? How did the rusted legion capture Baduu and bend her will? So many questions left unanswered, so I agree that the story wasn't well thought out.

Yeah, I saw him too. That's why I think it would be best, if someone just copy/pasted the blacklist here, so that we don't have to switch sites every time we decide to check certain battletags and inexperienced players would know where to look, in order not to get scammed. Chimera created it, so I don't see anything wrong in making the same list here.
