I think it could be way more interesting if boards were "divided" into two halves, so it would show both yours and your opponent's skins (on their respective halves) on every fight, instead of having it show a full board of one or the other.
Animations will always have different running times to each player, depending on quality settings, PC specs, etc. Locking the timer that way would force players to wait (sometimes a lot) if their opponent is stuck on multiple or slow animations. Imagine having to wait a little EVERY turn for no apparent reason (since animations have already ended for you), it would just make the overall experience bad everytime in order to fix something that is bad sometimes.
The "Start of Turn" phase happens before the draw, so you'd see the card and make the choice before actually drawing it. Would be the same timing as Skull of the Man'ari, that pulls a demon before the player drew, so not really skipping the draw.
