I only opened about 40 packs so trying to make a full DMF deck is a challenge. I can see why it's easier to stick with a meta deck you've already invested in and swapping a few new cards. If Blizzard had given away one Old God for free at the beginning of the expansions, you would definitely see far more experimentation.
I also think that as Blizzard has increased the number of expansions and adventures per year, it becomes harder for a F2P to put together a meta deck other than aggro. At this point, I have to pillage five other classes to get cards for the four classes that I play. I do think Blizzard should have tossed in a free Old God at launch.
It's getting rough for F2P. At this point, I can usually scrape together one top-ish tier deck per expansion from either Rouge, Mage, or Priest with Paladin, Warlock, and Demon Hunter as pure dust farms.
I'd be more curious about the time investment. Under your numbers and assuming a 100% win rate with an aggro deck (6 minute average game) you would still have to spend 3 hours a day to grind out that 150 gold per day.
If there's anything I love more than seeing someone give, in OldenGolden's words, a "Sermon on the Mount", is someone else giving another "Sermon on the Mount" on the first person's "Sermon on the Mount", whilst completely unaware that pointing out sermons in a forum also necessarily requires giving a sermon themselves.
Get ready for sermonception as I prepare a lengthy response to your mini-sermon!
Here's some really cool Old Gods!
*meta goes full aggro
I've been playing a version of this and it definitely has a 100% fun-rate (and like sub-50% win-rate). Looking forward to trying out this version.

Read the room, Blizzard.

Wow. Face hunter and face demon at the top. Another really exciting meta!
I only had enough dust to craft one card. This was it.
All hail Yogg.

Opened 39 packs, 1 legendary. Looks like I'm off to Battlegrounds this expansion.
Love the new system. Old one was boring.
Now this is what I'm talking about! Thanks for doing all this work.
You could try playing for a week and seeing how it works out.

This is why I always skip the first week of ranked each month.
I will craft Yogg on Day #1. All Hail RNG!
People also like it because it's easy.
I'm so good at Battlegrounds that they only let me choose from two heroes instead of four.

Astromancer is a solid craft as it fits into a bunch of mage decks.
Keep Megasaur, but remove divine shields as one of the upgrades.
