Actually he is worse than the murlocs. He is a gnome, he doesnt use any spell school, he doesnt have any synergy.

    Possibly the worst mercenary.

Doesn't have any synergy? His Tactical Strike combos off Xyrella, then starting on turn 2 he always has access to at least one Speed 3 damaging move to combo with Samuro.

Here are all the Speed 3 (or faster) damaging abilities I can find for combining with Double Strike:

No cooldown, works turn 1: Brightwing's Faerie Breath or Xyrella's Blinding Luminance. Xyrella is particularly strong for negating retaliation damage.

Double Cooldown 1: Scabbs Cutterbutter's Wicked Stab and Shadow Blade. After Turn 1, Scabbs would always have at least one of these two abilities available. It's also worth noting that Scabb's Tactical Strike has strong synergy with the moves on this list, especially Xyrella's and Tirion's.

No cooldown but needs previous turn setup: Malfurion Stormrage's Cenarion Surge into either his Cenarion Surge or Entangling Roots, or any Nature ability of base speed 6 or faster on any other Merc.

Cooldown 1: Saurfang's Whirlwind and Tirion Fordring's Judgment of Humility. Although it cannot be used continuously, Tirion's is particularly strong for negating retaliation damage.

Cooldown 2: Alexstrasza's Dragonqueen's Gambit, with equipment to improve Speed. This can be very strong because the more retaliation damage Samuro would take, the more powerful Gambit is, e.g. against opposing, out of control Samuro, eliminating them faster than any heal can be executed. On the other hand, if you the opponent's team doesn't scale Attack, okay, here's a Double Strike activation.

There are other ways with a less certain chance of success, and the combination of Baron Geddon and Antonidas, but that pretty much covers it, as far as I'm aware.

Because I didn't see it mentioned above: the three speeds for Wicked Stab are 3, 6, and 9.

I think Morgl is more like Tier 3 than unplayable. Even a Tier 3 card is, roughly speaking, top half. But yes, he's no Xyrella.

I disagree. I don't think Murlocs are very good at all, and Morgl is particularly good at keeping Bru'kan alive with Healing Wave. I actually think the Mitts are his best equipment.

    The starting lineup is wrong.

Running Bru'kan without a turn 1 Taunt in this meta is borderline insanity, because Xyrella and Samuro are everywhere. Even without help from a third enemy Merc, the two can one turn KO a Bru'kan from full (if the enemy is fully geared) and with that third Merc's action factored in, a good plan is needed to keep Bru'kan alive.

Morgl is the man with the plan. The combination of Morgl's Mitts,  Malfurion's Staff, and the Oracle's access to a speed 4 nature ability, all greatly increase the odds that Bru'kan can survive the first turn, and the murloc's Healing Wave goes great with the troll's Lightning Bolt on Turn 2. Along with Malfurion (potentially) Rooting the Blademaster on that turn, of course.
