A few months ago we datamined the release order of the Book of Heroes chapters. It was going well until we hit the hero after Uther, our Priest friend Anduin, which shook things up.
Based on the order, we were expecting to see Druid fun through a Malfurion story in the client. When word got around that Anduin was next though, everything we knew about the release order was now inaccurate and up in the air - until now. Blizzard has made data updates in the client to move Anduin to his correct place, after Uther, and has done a little bit of other arranging as well. Here are the, pending Blizzard confirmation and release, next heroes we will see and their order.
- Anduin
- Valeera
- Thrall
- Gul'dan
- Malfurion
- Illidan
Heroes above that are in bold did not move positions.
While we don't have details to share on their hero names or what the exact stories will be, we can tell you that we're fairly confident its true as the order makes more sense. Putting Malfurion and Illidan beside each other, who have very overlapping stories, gives Blizzard the ability to do something very cool with them, possibly a simultaneous release, and to overall give a more cohesive look at the brothers.

I can’t wait for Valeera’s storyline. I’ve been a Rogue-only player since World of Warcraft came out in 2004 — the same goes for Hearthstone. I look forward to the Rogue exclusive packs and skin. :-)
Most excited for Gul'dan, Illidan, and Thrall.
I'm most excited for Gul'dan, considering there's been 2 versions of him? Things started getting confusing since Warlords of Draenor was released x_x
The precedent has so far been to stop the story at the end of Mists of Pandaria (i.e. when HS was released), which would neatly avoid the complications of having 2 Gul'dans running around.
I'm keen to see whether Anduin covers anything more recent, because if anyone needs to it is him.
There are going to be two different Illidian intros now. I wonder if Illidian's story is going to be retold in a different way to make it different than the initiation? Maybe he is last so that the original intro won't be fresh in our minds.
I expect Malfurion to cover the War of the Ancients (which Illidan's intro story kinda tells), while Illidan will shrink it down to a single encounter and focus on what he's done since. Certainly Illidan has a lot to say from Warcraft 3 and The Burning Crusade, neither of which were covered in his Initiate intro. There's also the Legion expansion, but I don't expect that to be discussed since everyone has so far stopped at the end of Mists of Pandaria (when HS was released).
Apologies for all the expansion names... he's been a busy boy.
Valeera is tops, but I've had fun with, and look forward to, all of these.
SI:7 Anduin leak confirmed in collection manager. If you scroll past the hero skins you have you can see all others in the game that you don't have. He's in there now.
Interesting that there's no mention of Gul'dan in the order. Wonder if he'll be kept to the very end of the release order?
