Second Dinner has announced that Nexus Events, the divisive new loot boxes that launched last Tuesday in Marvel Snap, are being disabled thanks to a sneaky patch. Per Ben Brode:

Quote From Ben Brode

Hey everyone! We’re still working on what our future monetization/new card plans might look like, but we know for sure they’re not Nexus Events. We were able to sneak out an emergency patch to disable all future Nexus Events once the current one ends on Monday. This patch also reverts the change to credit bundle purchases that came with the Nexus Events update - you will again be able to use gold to purchase multiple credit bundles in the shop each day. These changes are just a first step that we could implement quickly. We’re continuing to work on the path forward and will keep y’all updated along the way. We’re trying to work fast here, so I’m hoping we can provide more updates early next week.

To be honest, we kind of expected something like this to happen. Although Ben Brode said that they couldn't make any changes to Nexus Events without a full client patch (Source), it was pretty obvious that the community would not be pleased if the team launched the next Nexus Event without any changes to the current system.

However, we're at least somewhat surprised that the team is apparently giving up on Nexus Events completely. While the player response was strongly against these new "events," we figured the team would rejigger the odds, maybe lower the amount of opens required to get new cards, then launch the next Event, Hela/Valkyrie. Judging by Ben's words, they're moving in a completely new direction. Whether this means an entirely new system, or something that is essentially a Nexus Event in all but name, remains to be seen.

They've also reverted the Gold for Credits deals in the shop, raising the limits from allowing players to purchase them once a day to three times a day.

Will Nexus Events eventually come back under a new name? If not, what will Marvel Snap look like in a post-Nexus Event world? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
