You know how this story goes by now: new major patch, new issues start popping up. Issues of various significance and intensity; with hotfixes sometimes coming up within hours, and other times requiring at least a couple of days to get together. This time around the early reports don't seem to be too bad (comparably, as we've seen far worse game-breaking problems to date).

Since the Patch 24.2 is so heavily focused on Hearthstone Battlegrounds, it stands to reason that a good number of bugs would be related to the game mode in one way or another. But as it turns out, not quite everything. Be warned - if you cannot stand visual glitches of any sort, this is going to be a painfully frustrating experience.

Hearthstone team has already been working behind the scenes to fix all of these things, while establishing their usual thread on the official Blizzard forums. Not every single known issue might be documented over there, as we will undoubtedly have to rely on the community sleuths to find out about some of the more obscure faulty interactions.

Alright, we've gotten a moment to get a better understanding of some of the early stuff that popped up and we now have the official 24.2 Known Issues post.

It's probably safe to assume we are going to see a small hotfix patch just in time for the weekend (if not sooner). For the time being, here is a quick list detailing everything we are currently aware of:

Battlegrounds Disconnects & Benched Heroes

This has been the most crucial problem of this patch's launch, ruining people's initial experiences with the new content. At least the possible cause has been uncovered relatively quickly:

Quote From Blizzard

  • The team is investigating disconnections from Battlegrounds servers, causing some players to be unable to re-enter until after the game at issue has concluded. Update: These disconnects appear to be connected to games including Bru’kan, Tavish, Sir Finley, and Master Nguyen heroes. Those heroes have been temporarily disabled while this issue is further investigated.

At least you know which Heroes not to expect (temporarily) in your lobbies, regardless of whether you are sticking to 2 or 4 selection slots.

This isn't to say something else might not be responsible for the underlying issue here, as a number of players seem to believe bad things happen whenever they are queued to face the new hero Sire Denathrius on specific Quest turns. And there have been reports of other Heroes seemingly causing such disconnects as well.

Quote From DeckTech
I don’t think it’s specifically the hero you played with that matters, just that those hero powers were the ones that seemed to be throwing the most errors on the server.

It doesn’t seem to be specifically the hero you are using, just if a hero in your lobby causes a disconnect.

Quest Rewards and Animation Times

Probably not something that's going to bother that many people who might just be playing casually, but just in case here is a link to the Battlegrounds leaderboards. Now with hundreds of thousands of entries.

  • [Added 8/31] The team is aware that Battlegrounds Ratings are not showing correctly on mobile. Your rating is still being correctly adjusted after each game and can be seen on desktop or the leaderboards. The team is investigating solutions to the issue.

Admittedly, the current nuisances don't quite end there:

Quote From Blizzard

  • The team is aware that Battlegrounds characters that can have more than one Quest (Denathrius) or Quests and Secrets at the same time (like Akazamzarak) are unable to mouse over the extra Quest to see progress. The team is investigating the issue.

Obviously the Quests mechanic couldn't have quite made its debut without a hitch, or it just wouldn't be a proper Hearthstone patch. And what would we be even talking about then?

Quote From DeckTech
Not a bug, but the quest reward animation is really, really slow. And for quests that can be completed multiple times a turn it can ruin a turn.

Yeah, I've heard a few people saying that. I think it's definitely something the devs will keep in mind for the next update window.

Disappearing Weekly Quests

We had known that a couple of now-former Weekly Battlegrounds Quests were set to migrate over and turn into that game mode's new specific Missions, but few players could've expected this would mean said quests abandoning their logs as soon as the patch came to be. Now, that wasn't exactly the plan. But don't despair, you shouldn't lose out on any XP for this week!

Update: You should be seeing your missing Battlegrounds Quests being returned to you now, and be able to reroll into something else. Or try to complete them if that still works as it used to.

Quote From Blizzard

  • [Resolved 8/31] The team is aware that any existing Battlegrounds-only Weekly Quests players had prior to the 24.2 patch were deleted when 24.2 went live. It is intended that these Weekly Quests will not be offered going forward, but it is not intended that those players already had would be deleted went the patch went live. Those deleted Weekly Quests will be returned to affected players in an update coming soon.

Visual Glitches

There are a few, including the return of the dreaded 'eternal exclamation mark' refusing to let go of our Journal icon in-game. Sigh. We've already had to tolerate it before across one long patch cycle. Naturally, that just makes the game completely unplayable and all that. Don't let it haunt your dreams!

And yes, your bonus XP from the Tavern Pass (for the regular Rewards Track) seems to be safe after all. Even though the game might not be currently showing the correct numbers, you should still be receiving the extra intended 10-20% from your Quests.

Quote From Blizzard

  • The team is aware that the Hearthstone Track XP Boosts are not being represented in Daily and Weekly Quest amounts. The team has confirmed this is a visual-only issue and the Quests are still awarding the correct amount. The team is investigating the solution to this visual bug.
  • The team is aware that the Journal notification is unable to be dismissed with this patch. The team is investigating the issue.
  • The new Magical Guardian Elise hero skin is missing its hero tray. This will be added in a future update.

Speaking of hero skins, do you recall the "bouncy animated Heroes" from the previous Hearthstone patch? At least that glitch has been fixed now, and they should no longer be a laughing matter!

Quote From Blizzard

  • Fixed visual bugs with the Reveler Kael’thas and Venthyr Liadrin Hero Skin animations.

Lost Adventure(r)s

Now this is a peculiar one. It's not like we're keeping track of anything, but it feels like almost every other major patch manages to break something when it comes to Solo Adventures. They just cannot be left in peace, can they.

Quote From Blizzard

  • The team is aware that some old Adventures cannot be accessed by players who own some, but not all, of the wings to those Adventures. The team has identified the issue and expects a fix in the next major patch.

Other Bug Fixes and Improvements - 22.4 Patch Notes

This list comes courtesy of the patch notes, and it's surprisingly extensive. As most of these topics seem related to Constructed Hearthstone or Achievements, we haven't actually had the opportunity to talk about them. Definitely worth knowing if you like to stay informed!

Quote From Blizzard

  • Fixed a bug where Relic of Dimensions did not draw from the top of your deck.
  • Fixed a bug where Demolition Renovator did not function on mobile.
  • Fixed a bug where Front Lines did not trigger if either player’s board was already full.
  • Fixed a bug where Party Crasher would “use up” the attack of a Rush minion that survived the crash.
  • Fixed a bug where Sinful Brand would not trigger if the minion died from the damage.
  • Fixed a bug where Sunken Scavenger was incorrectly counted as an “Imp.”
  • Fixed a bug where Imprisoned Scrap Imp was not counted as an “Imp.”
  • Fixed a bug where Suspicious Usher would retain any damage done to minions copied.
  • Fixed a bug where Dispose of Evidence showed the shuffled card in the history tile. You can now dispose the evidence without exposing the evidence.
  • Fixed a bug where Sinstone Graveyard summoned its minions to the far left side of your board, instead of directly to its right.
  • Fixed a bug where the Infuse sound effect did not play when an Infuse counter was incremented.
  • Fixed a bug where Locations did not play their entry sounds when played.
  • Fixed a bug where Location activation visual effects were not seen by opponents.
  • Updated the text on Cloak of Shadows to more accurately describe how it works.
  • Spammy Arcanist’s effect will now count Bubbler dying from 1 damage in order to continue spamming.
  • Fixed a bug where Herald of Shadows did not count for the Harold Who? achievement.
  • Updated the wording on the One of the Classic Blunders achievement to match its function.

A couple of 'Imp-rovements', and some other changes being notable in their own right. Such as Sinstone Graveyard now capable of distinguishing between left and right, Locations' effects no longer looking as underwhelming, and even more important bug fixes for the intended functionality of Relic of Dimensions, Party Crasher, or Sinful Brand.

That's about it as far as the initial batch goes. We'll keep you posted should more issues (and preferably fixes) come up on our radars!

How about your own experiences with the newly revamped Battlegrounds, has it treated you well so far? If you know of anything else that isn't quite working properly, do tell!
