If you’re like me, you can’t wait to explore new games and discover the next amazing title. Or maybe, you’re bored and want to try something new. Whatever the case might be, I’d like to highlight some terrific independent games that are available now (or soon will be). It’s important to note that all these games are still at various stages of development and not in their final state. These selections are also free-to-play (F2P), with some having completely optional purchases.

Tales of the Deck

Tales of the Deck: Described as a “retro RPG card strategy” game, it has an old-school Final Fantasy look to the characters. Your goal is to gain Magic Points (MP) to cast more powerful spells or attack your foes with your weapon and your deck gives you those resources. If you make it to the final battle, you’re going to have a challenge defeating the boss, but a fun one.

Causa, Voices of the Dusk

Causa, Voices of the Dusk: You assume the role of a leader in the world of Hegemony, battling for power. Each turn you build your “Cause” by pledging cards in your hand. The higher your Cause, the more powerful allies you can summon. At certain levels of Cause, you are granted access to special decisions, which will give you a tactical advantage over your opponent.

SkyWeaver

SkyWeaver: This is a trading card game that has a few tricks up its sleeve. You’re dealing with two types of cards: Units and Spells. The first interesting aspect to this game is that many of the units you cast have spells attached to them, which adds a lot of value and important play decisions. The next cool thing is that SkyWeaver uses blockchain technology with Ethereum, so you own and can trade all the cards you have acquired.

Fatal Core

Fatal Core: This digital card game has an interesting concept to make decisions even more impactful. Both players have their hands revealed for the entire game, except for two cards that you can select at the start (or an additional one you draw later). Each turn you place units on squares that modify their Attack and Health, then all actions resolve simultaneously.

Mythgard

Mythgard: Get ready for a great tutorial and solo campaign to get you started and bring you up to speed on all the mechanics of the game. You start by “burning” cards from your hand to gain mana and gems required to build up your resources. Both players have lanes where the battles take place. Keep in mind that position matters, because you may not be able to attack or block, depending on the placement.

Call of Myth

Call of Myth: This strategy card game is based on characters from the universe created by H.P. Lovecraft. If you’re not sure who that is, I have one word for you – Cthulhu (giant, old-god, squid-looking monstrosity). Yeah, Lovecraft’s the guy that came up with that unholy terror. Choose from Human, Old Ones, and Outer God factions to play with and pray you can keep your sanity.
