Runeterra's Design Director, Andrew Yip, has confirmed changes coming to experience gains in friendly challenges to undo some of the previous patch's changes. These changes will arrive with the next game update Patch 0.9.1.

  • Experience gains in friendly challenges will be increased for both wins and losses.
  • A cap will remain on the number of games that give you experience in friendly challenges to discourage win-trading.
  • More changes will arrive in the future with better solutions.

We don't have the exact numbers, but in the last patch, experience was changed so that you would get 0 experience for a loss or tied game and only 100 for a win. These were decreased from 200 XP for a win and 100 XP for a loss.

Loss XP1000?

Quote From Andrew Yip

Last patch we made a change to friend challenge XP intended to curb surrender win trading. It accomplished that, but also caused a lot of unintended pain to players just looking to game with friends. We’re going to fix this in a couple steps.

Short term (next patch, 0.9.1) we’ll increase friend challenge XP for both wins and losses, but keep the cap on games so players don’t feel compelled to trade again. There are better solutions, but that won’t land for several patches.

We have some other changes to this system coming that I’m excited for the team to share soon too. Thanks for the feedback; see you in game!
