Hearthstone Player count?

Submitted 4 years, 8 months ago by

Hello fellow OOC People Sirkartoffel here.

I have been playing the game since Nax and I am enjoying what the team is doing at the moment with the last 2 expansions. The game is becoming fun again and I am able to climb to the ranks between 4-2 each month now.

here is my question: "Does any body know how many players there are in Hearthstone right now (August 2019)?"

I am curious because I have begun to see more streamers leave Hearthstone and venture to other games (LoL Autochess as an example).

I have looked online and the only number I could find was 100 Million back in November of 2018.

Do you think that the number is increasing? or do you feel like Hearthstone is not releasing any numbers to hide something (or nothing at all) from us?

It would sadden me to see Hearthstone's player base dropping as I really do love this game.

Thanks guys,

*disclaimer I and quite new to posting forums so I don't know if this is a repeated post, also the question is just for my curiosity :)

Well, the number of *active* players is certainly not 100M. Those are just the accounts that unlocked HS.

It is debatable *how* we would define those "active players", but even then i bet they will never share that number.

We could think a good index is the HSReplay data, the number of players who share data, and the number of games. Those are definitely a percentage of the active players.

Ultimately, HS is bound to slowly drop its playerbase, but that doesn't mean the game is dieing: it's just ageing, slowly enough for you to get tired of it before it actually collapses.

Streamers leaving the game feels bad but i can‘t blame them. Imagine playing against warriors 6-10h a day, 7 days a week. I think it‘s a fact that viewership and content production has passed it‘s peak. But:

Names like Kibler or Kripparian won‘t leave us soon. They treat HS like a 9 til 5 job and do pretty well with that.

Some smaller names got big in the last couple months/years aswell. Amaz got replaced by Thijs, Savjz by RegisKilbin etc.

What i‘m trying to say, is that HS has passed the test of time imo. As it stands, HS remains fun and interesting for many people.

To the numbers, there are monthly well over 10k people getting legend on EU Servers. Another couple thousend in wild mode. That’s below 1% of the playerbase. This means, there are at least a couple million players active in EU. I would estimate roughly 10-20 Million active and semi active players world wide. In any case, HS is still going strong and definitly here to stay.

Generally speaking, most companies keep their active player count private. You can check the estimated downloads and revenue per month for free on the Sensor Tower site, which currently states that the mobile app has:

    iOS downloads 200K (last month)
    Android downloads 500K (last month)

This data is still very raw, since you dont get any info on the Windows  & Mac Downloads, but MOST importantly you cant get the player retention metrics for free. (retention is basically how many of the downloads on day 1 are active on days 3, 7, 15, 30 etc.)

I think the Sensortower or AppAnnie premium accounts might have info on the currently active accounts on iOS and android.

Before SoU the meta was so stale that I can feel the pain of a streamer that should face the same 3 decks for like 4-8 h of stream.

Also the Specialist format was so terrible that even tournaments' views have dropped (again seeing only 3 decks being played make it so terrible).

The first few weeks of a new expansion set are always good, but in the long run we can only hope that there will not be such a polarized meta towards so fews decks.
