Dalaran Heist Wing 5 Final Bosses

Submitted 4 years, 10 months ago by

Hey guys,

Does anyone else feel like Blizzard really missed a chance by having the same final 4 bosses every time on the final wing? When I first heard that the wing's gimmick would be 4 additional encounters, I figured it would work just like the other wings, just giving you more crazy bosses and time to build a crazy deck. However, it seems like the final 4 bosses are the same every time. One of the best things about this adventure is the great variety between all the bosses, and I feel like having the final bosses be the same every time reduces the replayability. Also, the fact that they are all Mages makes it even worse. What are your thoughts?

Mmm, I disagree. Obviously, the last 4 have to be Mages due to it being the only twist of the KIRIN TOR citadel. I kinda wish there were a few more options, but the way the did is a satisfying ending for me.

I like the fact you feel like you facing the leaders of the Kirin Tor I would have liked more variety but not totally random. I don’t know the current lore for Dalaran but I would have liked Rhonin to have been one. Maybe Kalec in his dragon form as Kalecgos.

Yeah I feel like there are a lot more options they could've added. Even just other/previous members of the six like Aethas Sunreaver, Rhonin, Karlain, Modera, Ansirem or Krasus, or characters closely related to them like Vereesa Windrunner or Rommath.

I felt the same as OP, too. After I finished the whole thing I asked myself, "Do I really feel like repeating this all over again in heroic mode?" I still haven't bothered, but maybe one of the big challenges of Chapter 5 is to create a deck that works early on and also beats the "final four." The last three mages are outrageous, but they are very different from each other and you have change strategy with the same deck. The first of the four mages, or "Adventurer 8," which is usually the crazy secret mage, gives a time limit on taking your turn so you don't have an infinite amount of time to make decisions or use echoed cards over and over and sort of destroys any plans for using a combo or OTK kind of thing.  That particular match also kind of forces you to have a deck of 30 cards or more because sometimes your only option is fatigue her.

So, anyway, I think the last chapter sort of showcases deck building and decision making. While you're selecting cards, going to the tavern to edit, and choosing treasures, the game has you thinking about the "final four" while also preparing for the randomized match-ups.

On one run in Chapter 5 I was very disappointed to get Wendy twice in a row and on another I was irritated because it threw Bae Chao at me twice in a row. You have to be ready for these kinds of curve balls while constantly building your deck for upcoming "monster mages."

I'm not really bothered by it. Yes, it makes the last fights of the final act a bit more repetitive, but also has that "Final boss and his lieutenants" vibe. I suppose they could have randomised the sequence in which Kalec, Vargoth and Norroa appear, and maybe added a fourth lieutenant to the pool so there'd always be 1 you don't have to face, but it's not something I really feel that strongly about.

On the other hand, what really bugs me is the sameness of all the 5 acts. The twists aren't impactful enough and too many bosses show up in several acts, making them completely generic. Kizi, Linzi, Awilo, Akazamzarak and most others don't feel special when you encounter them because they're in almost every act. The only act that really feels different based on the encounters is the Sewers, which feature a bunch of bosses unique to that act like Chomper, Dancin' Daryl and the Rat King.

Honestly it feels like they took three or four acts worth of content and spread it out over five acts.

it would be more amazing if halfway through the turn, Kalec transformed into Kalegos dragon and has different hero power just like Karl and George.

Personally I wasn't bothered by it. The fact that they simply repeat, with a set order, power and deck actually are a nice change of pace - you can plan your deck in advance to better counter them, instead of getting some random dude that might have the direct counter to your deck. This felt like it made heroic mode a bit less of an RNG fest, which is important since the last 4 encounters get pretty crazy pretty damn fast.
