FYI, I just unlocked Vanndar. and got to a stranger. it showed me vanndar and 2 other empty slots. picked vanndar obviously but then the game froze. didnt said "not responding" but had to close the game. when I log back in my run still continued as if I picked vanndar normally.
so yeah, I guess if you have any mercs available for tasks, game still freezes but no longer softlocks. at least appearantly.
exactly. I dunno the exact reason for that, but every stranger boons cause my run to softlock.
I have completed every single task for every single merc out there (except fot the newest ones, dont even have them yet). The strager then always gives me the option to pick one merc out of 3 random mercs and gives me 15 coins for it, saying "you have completed all the tasks for this merc". I thought my high progression caused me problems but that might not be the case.
wait, did they release all the book of mercenaries chapters? if not, maybe the reason this mystery is "unachieveable" is because its not out yet? I always thought it was not working due to some bug. maybe this time we gonna need to start the puzzle in the book of merc instead of practice?
especially the "they're better off just selling the merc portraits as actual skins since they're clearly the best part of the entire thing." part :D
I think it really sucks to see a mode with so much great potential getting wrecked by devs. (well thats just the blizz I guess, like the overwatch lol)

I used Malfurion+Brukan+Anacondra and 3 beasts that I have not max'ed.
Unfortunately I cant remember exactly, but I think one of my beasts died early in the run. but not sure tho.
Just use the 3 mercs I said above, and try to pick all nature+damage treasures. brukan's double ability 1 treasure is also very very good.
with all that, I have not experienced any problems. best of luck to you
