Good writeup, I didn't even know about most of these exhibits. I always had trust that HS makes changes that are good for its playerbase. Maybe my memory is bad but I think that for the most part - all the previous controversies were made good in the end. This past week I found myself very active in protest against the new weeklies. I'm usually a quiet observer but this time it felt like an unprecedented event. I could see the game being dismantled in front of our eyes.
Blizzard's (lack of) presentation of the change has been a disaster, and the response from yesterday has done nothing to reassure us that their intentions are good for us.
I am currently in a place where I'm reevaluating my dedication level for the game. I will stop spending money on it, that's for sure. And I won't be doing the 10 ranked wins quest because it's simply too much.
I loved playing HS the last 10 years, and continued playing on a daily basis depsite my friends all gradually abandoning it over the years. Maybe the time for me to bow out is coming soon as well, and hopefully one day I'll have the courage to hit that Uninstall button...
It's meant to catch you up to the current standard year. Therefore as I understand it's only going to be available on the 3rd expansion of the year (~December) from now on.
When I say skill ceiling - I mean both in drafting and in executing on your draft. The fact you have to deal with bad card offerings is what makes the mode so interesting imo. Don't forget that your opponents go through the same randomized buckets as you do.
Sure, sometimes you are forced to draft an absolute poop of a deck. Personally I don't find it happening too often, so there's something to be said about leaning into your bad buckets and making the most of it. Those bad decks can even perform better than you expect because you tend to play them differently and more desperately - and that can prove beneficial in many situations.
HearthArena only got me so far, it wasn't until I started to watch pro Arena players on Twitch that I saw significant improvement. I mostly follow Dreads and RedBeard.
I found their tweet rather innocent and benevolent.
Wouldn't go so far to call it misinformation. I mean if we can't have jokes about "non important" stuff such as video games - what are we even doing?
Blizzard have fucked up so much that it become characteristic by this point.. But I wouldn't scold them for a seemingly bad joke.
You sound pretty upset and I don't blame ya. Feels like society is getting more and more broken due to social media. The dangerous precedent that just happened with Twitter is a huge reminder of that. We can already see it fall apart in a matter of days, and it's only going to get worse.
I wasn't sure how many daily quests the system supports. I see one spot on the quest page but the event tab hints there may be room for 2 more (where the horseman image is).
Having to complete a daily quest once a day is a little stressful, however it seems there's plenty of XP throughout the event to complete it, even with having to skip a few dailies.
I actually never realized the spell school damage quests relate to Mercenaries.
I always dread the moment when I get one of those - because it means either rerolling it to a 900XP quest (I wish they changed this behavior), or doing 3-4 custom games in Constructed with special spell damage decks.
Would love to see them out of the game but at least from now on I'll have a more efficient way to complete them. Thanks!

Always felt dumb and needlessly restrictive, glad to see it fixed!
The phrase "Death Knight Class Nerf" gives me a warm fuzzy happy feeling :)
Always appreciate the reminder :)
Usually only get used to the meta once it's about to be rotated.. oh well back to 3-3 runs again :(
Nonetheless very excited for this expansion with the music theme!
Good opportunity as always to thank you for a year of dedicated, punctual and accurate Hearthstone reporting and analysis.
The game would've been much worse to play without your tireless work.
Appreciate you so much! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year :)

Arena can be great if you put in the time to learn it. It has an incredibly high skill ceiling so it can be a lengthy process.
Regarding drafting - look into HearthArena. They provide a very established tier list, and they have a plugin that helps you draft.
Retiring runs without notice is so infuriating. I had a 5-1 run that was going places :(
Feels like HS community management is at an all time low...
Oh it's definitely a huge improvement.

Huge from Blizzard to include a reference to that notorious "More dots" meme.
Delighted :D
TIL I'm a whale :D
On average I'm spending $20 each expansion (usually the bundles that arrive after launch). Never bought a pre-order bundle.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown! Highly appreciated
As mainly an arena player, would probably draft this without thinking twice
Getting 11 wins in the Brawliseum with Secret Hunter :)
