Thanks for the welcome back =)

I had some things to take care of and will be slowly getting back into the swing of things over the next week. I will be absent though the week after, for definitely not World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King things.

I've got a lot of things to get realigned with our Out of Cards (and more) efforts and due to that I'll likely not be as present in the news unless urgent stuff needs to get out and folks aren't around. I wish there were more hours in the day to do everything. I like doing everything!

What a way to end the week. Plenty of folks have been leaving Blizzard over the past few years so I'm never surprised when I see leaving announcements on Fridays, but this one was a little unexpected, but also not entirely.

Dean hasn't been as active recently and when you see activity drop, there's usually a good reason for it. He's also been on the Hearthstone team for an eternity and at some point, you do want to move on.

I'm aiming to get an update in this weekend to change our deckbuilder back to older functionality. We made a change that overall should have only sped-up the deckbuilder but unfortunately this ended up being not the case. It's certainly a shame because a lot of time was spent on it but it looks like some machines and browsers just aren't a fan of indexeddb support, despite being a web standard and working across the board with the exception of people on Firefox Permanent Private Browsing Mode, which is a very niche group of people using it, which is already a niche of users using Firefox.

So yeah, aiming for something late Sunday more than likely. If not Sunday, definitely Monday, the day before Castle Nathria launches.

Fixed the issue, may take a moment to go through though due to cache.

I also moved this thread to the correct forum and updated the title to be more descriptive of the issue.

    Thanks for the report!

It's not a core title here, but if there's something cool we pick up on we'll post about it =)

He's a super salt mine and honestly, it would be better if he just stopped playing Hearthstone at this point. I'm sure his mental health would improve too.

Prime example of how to engage. I'm surprised Blizzard even bothers to engage with him anymore.

Assuming it works the way that other Secrets + Battlecry interactions do, which should be the case, Battlecry resolves before the Secret. See Snipe.

    The way it works is:

    1. Battlecry Event
    2. Minion on Board Event
    3. Secret Trigger on Minion Board Event

Fun fact! There are assets in the client for Alliance card frames. Hearthstone originally had Alliance and Horde cards, a part that carried over from WoW TCG. They ultimately abandoned it but left the assets in.

I wish we had sub-tribes as it would add a ton of flavor to the game, but I understand it is better to keep Hearthstone simple at the core. MTG's tribes are exciting to read even though they can be a mouthful at times.

Treants, Whelps, and Imps all definitely deserve something - it's almost as bad as the Alliance and Horde issue with Mercenaries. I wish there was a good spot on the card for an extra icon. The least they could do is put a tooltip over these sub-tribes so when you mouse over them you get to see what they belong to. Maybe something could work with the top right corner of cards. Even ignoring legendary cards, it would be a bit awkward to change the shape of our beloved frame, but the text box could never be used for such an icon as it should be made available for the description. Maybe the text box just needs to kick things off with Imp. Envoy gets a bit more crowded but it would make it clear as day that its a part of the mechanics, much like when we call upon doubling the Battlecry keyword via Brann Bronzebeard. Making subtribes a keyword could also open up a ton of design space. Kitten Beast archetype when?

Though honestly, I think just making Imp the tribe itself and then making it required knowledge that an Imp is always a demon as well would work too. The game has gotten more complicated over the years as the playerbased has matured, I don't see this being a major pain to do.

    Great article!

Glad it was an easy fix! Sometimes files get cached incorrectly and thus you ended up with broken stylesheets =(

Alright so it sounds like you're just missing CSS.

Could you try to hard-refresh your page for Out of Cards? You can do this by pressing Ctrl+Shift+R when you have any Out of Cards page open. I recommend first closing your browser completely though and then trying this just to make sure we're at a base-level state (rebooting your computer as a whole might not be a bad idea either).

If a hard-refresh doesn't work, I'd like to know what your browser console is saying, if anything.

F12 will open your browser's console and the Console tab itself, after a refresh, might display some information about why it is having trouble loading the css file. Speaking of, what happens if you try to visit our recent CSS file directly?

We're going to need more information. What do you mean by "broken"? Screenshots of what you are seeing? Browser? OS? Thanks

I'd make use of the general forums for now as we can always move threads to their correct forums down the line. I'd rather try and have a single forum for the game get traffic and talking then breaking it up into a couple, at least to start. Breaking up the forums when there is low traffic to them can do more harm.

No one saw the Voyage to the Sunken City background art for 30 seconds. I definitely did not make that mistake. Nope.

It's still on Twitter if you care.

Just wanted to comment so that it is known that there are at least some people wanting this 😃

I want to point out that this is really important for us to know. There might be things that have the priority from time to time, but knowing that a feature is requested or that there are people that would gladly use it makes us understand what's worth investing our (Flux's) time into.

Thanks for your precious feedback: as Flux said, it's a matter or "when" rather than "if".

Yup, couldn't agree more! Feedback is super important and drives much of what we do =)

Thanks for the response, but I believe there is also a "chicken-egg" debate to this. Maybe if this would be available you'll get more people on the site who play and at least you'll be ahead of the competition, which might be relevant when snap becomes big.

With the limited availability of the game, I know we're not missing out on a ton right now. That isn't to say that I didn't want to have a deckbuilder out day 1, we've just got so many ongoing projects on the backend that have taken priority that it's not the the works right now

I've also promised our Yu-Gi-Oh folks that they're getting their deckbuilder first since that tech has been in development for a while now. The Marvel Snap builder is going to be arriving very shortly after the Yu-Gi-Oh one goes live and will be making use of our new direction for what deckbuilders mean on Out of Cards.

    Additions & Changes

    General

    • Moved articles to new URL paths.
      • There was a lot of work done to ensure all our old links would forward to the correct location, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone discovered a one-off issue here or there.
      • All our articles are now classified under "news" on the site now, instead of their game-specific paths.
      • Keeping things game-specific ended up being a bad design decision.
    • Article themes are now gone.
      • This has been this way for a bit now with our article header overhauls, but now we're no longer serving theme information at all with our articles. This doesn't really matter for 99.9% of people.
    • Added new cache functionality to our BBCode to provide speed improvements.
      • We're currently only live with this for Hearthstone as a "live beta test".
      • Other BBCodes will move over to our new internal structure in the future.

    Mercenaries

    • Added a new party tag for "Event".

    Bug Fixes

    General

    • Fixed an issue where logged-out users were encountering a server error when trying to create a new thread on the forums.
    • Removed references to RSS feeds in places where we don't support RSS feeds.

    Hearthstone

    • Fixed an issue where multiclass cards would not always appear in the deckbuilder.

    Magic the Gathering

    • Fixed an issue where some of our cards didn't have images.

    Known Issues

    • This morning we had an issue with comments on the site.
      • As of right now, this issue has been resolved though some content may take some additional time to uncache.
    • FIXED Hearthstone Subportals (Duels, Mercs, Battlegrounds, Fan Creations) are currently erroring.
    • Firefox users who have private browsing permanently enabled cannot use the Hearthstone deckbuilder.
      • Due to how we load data for the deckbuilder, Firefox's private browsing mode doesn't let you use IndexedDB.
      • There is an incredibly tiny percentage of people that might have this enabled. I don't currently plan to offer a workaround.
      • Firefox has had an open issue to support it for 10 years now, all the other browsers support it in their private browsing modes by using an in-memory version that doesn't persist data to disk, losing the data on exit.
