As the resident Hearthstone Loremaster, I wholeheartedly agree, lol.

WoW is simply short for "World of Warcraft", so I often use the two terms interchangeably. I'm with you on the unique voice lines, although we wouldn't want so many that it would get old or overloaded.

Yes, Xanesh is riding a void wyrm, another odl god creature. I would perfer if she was more in the picture myself, but they wanted to give her a mount to make her fit in with the theme of racing for this mini-set.

Hex is a reference to troll witchdoctors, which are a close version of shaman for that race. Being a shaman means drastically different things to different races, so both cards and abelites in WoW are a smattering of powers from all across that spectrum. No one kind of shaman can do everything represented by all of these cards, lol

Haha, you haven't seen anything yet. Most elementals have names that are basically just tweaked words related to their element. You think Smolderon is bad? Try Volcanus, Magmatooth, Lord Overheat, and Ambassador Infernus among others. For air elementals, we also have Cyclonas, and Whrrrl, lol. Hearthstone may be the "light" version of WoW lore, but even the base lore doesn't always take itself super seriously.

That would make a good legendary weapon.

This is a good point depending on how you look at it. Several of the characters have been legit people or creatures from WoW lore, such as The Lurker Below, Nithogg, Moorabi, Hallazeal the Ascended, and Zentimo. However, none them are what we would call "significant' to the larger story. Most of them are dungeon or raid bosses or even just NPCs connected to certain themes. The criteria for making them shaman legendaries seems to be whether they can be said to have a thematic connection with on of the elements, such as water or lightning. Since shaman work with the elements, it makes sense to expand these characters as "thematic allies" when you have to stay within the flavor theme of the set.

Only problem with that is that we already have two versions of Lilian Voss, one from Frozen throne and a living version from Scholomance. I don't think they're going to make a third to put in classic, assuming they're even keeping classic.

My guess is that it could possibly his daughter, Venessa VanCleef, who took over his underworld leadership role after he died and she grew up. Lots of other possibilities, but she's a strong one.

I just want to say that, while I still have to get around to trying out these decks myself, I really appreciate what you're doing with this series to interject more of the casual fun element back into the Hearthstone community. Too often I only see people concerned about hard-core power levels and metadecks, which I think is in stark contrast the the theme of Hearthstone in the first place as a place to relax from adventures. Thank you for writing these up and encouraging us to just have fun sometimes.

The Wildhammer dwarves are very shamanistic. They also ride griffins and channel the power of lightning through their hammers to strike from the sky. While it's true that you couldn't play as a dwarf shaman in the early days of WoW, that's because all the playable dwarves were meant to be Bronzebeard dwarves. They later expanded the possible options for your character origins, but Wildhammer dwarves themselves have been cannon since Warcraft II, long before WoW was even in development.

There are a lot of dwarf shaman in lore, so it still fits thematically.

As a fan of dwarves, I'm really into this cardback. I'll be using it a lot, I think.

You are correct. The story of Shadowlands is still being released week by week at this point, so all we know for sure is that she was captured and we have now rescued her. It's going to take some time to recover from being imprisoned in WoW Hell, but she'll press on, I'm sure. Perhaps dataminers know more story, but I like to experience it naturally instead of having it spoiled myself. If anything major happens with her character, I'll add it in this guide as an edit.

Happy to help  and glad you enjoy it :) This also gives a bit of context to the Jaina battlepass skins, with the last one being set after the Book of Heroes story.

Yeah, Warcraft 3 is the basis and origin for so much story in WoW, and we'll be going back to it several times. Sylvanas and Varian were briefly allies on the Broken Shore before they lost and Varian died to Gul'dan. Jaina was a part of that fight and it was before the Horde was allowed in Dalaran and she went off in a huff. All the stuff with her mom and Kul Tiras was during BFA, as well as some other stuff that I didn't mention because it would have broken off a bit too much from her main biographical narrative.

Oh yea, she's in her early middle ages at the most. Likely somewhere in the 40s, but I'll have to do some digging to check for sure if there's even a stated age for some of these characters.
