That it would be hard and require a hard "mechanical change" that possibly can't be done is utter bullshit, though. I work with implementing (coding) UIs myself, so yeah..The fact that they even changed one menu in that exact manner proves it's possible.
It's more a matter of UX design than anything else.
People here seem to miss the HUGE nerf to completing tasks.
As it is now, you can always complete task 18 by running heroic felwood#4 with a certain setup.
After the patch though.. You will need to have the mecernaries whos tasks you want to complete in the party. Huge nerf. Huge.
I think they need to redesign their release flow.

Why can't they just rework the whole main menu instead of having menus inside menues? A tad annoying, and shouldn't be that hard.
