Mostly, everyone is mad that Nintendo announced they will not include every PokeMon from past games for the National Dex, just the Galar regional Dex.

Since we don't know how big the Galar Dex will be, it's silly to get too upset about an indeterminate number of PokeMon not appearing in this generation of games (which, like I said, could technically get patched in anyways). Some people have said they're leaving the series for this, but most of them are just reacting without full information and as new content is trickled out to us, they'll put their pre-orders in and start planning out their teams.

I know fans of the series are up in arms about the recent changes coming in with the blessing that is a console core installation of PokeMon. That being said, here's my take on things.

    • The game looks gorgeous and I'm incredibly excited to enjoy both tall grass and wandering encounters. I think both means of engaging wild PokéMon have a place in the main series and offer a better overall experience regarding immersion (much more than past titles).
    • The new mechanic - Dynamax - is a silly gimmick that forgoes the complexity and openness that Mega Evolution brought in X/Y. Mega PokéMon were and still are the best mechanic to enter the series, transforming average or even "bad" monsters to competitive tanks and sweepers. I mean, it made Beedrill a terrifying force to be reckoned with! Even Z-moves were more inventive, although they catered to the competitive tournament aspect of the game more than Megas ever did imo. Dynamax fails to bring anything unique to the series other than the opportunity to engage in raid battles (which didn't need Dynamax to come to fruition). They're just big, which means they're stronger. How revolutionary. Kappa
    • The absence of the National Dex feels very bad to a lifetime fan and player such as myself, but I wouldn't skip this game for it. The National Dex is something I've worked very hard on completing in every generation (I'm currently only missing a couple event legendaries like Marshadow!) and it feels strange and wrong to think of my hard-trained and collected PokéMon being cherry-picked for admission into the new generation. That being said, I do not think this will ruin the game. Nintendo and GameFreak could always see their fan base calling out for a full National Dex and bring the new character models in with a patch (why not exclude the non-Galar PokéMon from Dynamax effects to save space and development time?), but I can't say I 100% expect it. Given the increasing file size of each PokéMon and the sheer volume of monsters we now have, it's entirely reasonable for Nintendo to consider limiting how many PokéMon appear in each game. I want the National Dex as badly as the next trainer, but I'm not going to roast Nintendo and GameFreak for a Dex we have no information on regarding its size. Chill out and let's get some more information before we all flip our lids.
    • The new PokéMon designs look fantastic and I can't wait to see the rest (yes, even the moronic-looking Impidimp is fine imo. Just like in nature, not every creature is going to thrill, impress, or draw you in to love it, and that's fine).
    • I hope this generation gives us some real old-school challenges like Whitney's Miltank from Gold/Silver, something that just utterly steamrolls you the first time and makes you reconsider your team and battle plan. The games have felt very easy in the story with the Battle Trees and the like suddenly ramping up in difficulty.

    What did you think?

Most of the criticism I've seen is really weak/foolish.

I don't think they're doing a better job, but they're a week into managing a site that caters to a fan base with a penchant for leaping before looking, so to speak.

So many excuses to complain (I can hear the collective gasp of shock at that thought: Hearthstone players complaining!? Never! kappa), none of them with any goal to resolve things or offer constructive analysis.

I still use HearthPwn for now, but from what I've seen the site is largely unchanged aside from who writes the articles. The mechanics are untouched, neither better nor worse. I'm waiting to see if they can improve anything before I decide to ditch them just because of a buyout.

I wish wild was better tended to by Blizzard. I'd have some real incentive to spend money on this incredible deal.

Maybe fix Genn/Baku and nerf big priest to allow some real control decks in.

Got to the 11th boss with a janky deathrattle rogue build (bad buckets) and got rolled so hard when Kalec got a TTK on me with 26-damage Pyroblasts to my face, one each turn.

Just finished a run with Rogue on Chapter 4 (normal) and my deathrattle build was broken good.

Class/Power/Deck: Rogue, Dagger Mastery, Dead Man's Tale

Treasures: Crystal Gem, Overpowered, Rocket Backpacks, and Dagwik Stickytoe

I focused on maximum value from deathrattles, and getting the option for Rocket Backpacks early on opened up a lot of options for that plan to work. I thought I'd need Dagwik Stickytoe more than I ended up actually using him to begin with (between not drawing him most of my matches and getting way better value out of my deathrattles, he was a win-more), but before I realized this I added 3 copies to my deck during a friendly encounter.

In order, I faced Linzi Redgrin, The Great Akazamzarak, Mama Diggs, Cravitz Lorent, P.O.G.O., Vas'No, The Rat King (my favorite boss design, btw), and finally Madame Goya.

The most broken strong card in this build was Recurring Villain. Since none of the bosses ran silence or cards like Entomb, Turn 5 meant that Villain could smash repeatedly into anything that had 3+ attack and come back for the next minion. He completely nullifies any threat on board, especially given the AI know's he's not worth using removal on and your other minions generate value as well, so the AI often chooses the "best" removal, which meant anything that wasn't Villain.

    EZ run.

wish I'd seen this before I just finished my run with hunter on chapter 4, but I can say that quest builds with some high-value spells and beefy deathrattles wins every chapter I play so far.

I'll record my next build and run to add here! I really like this idea.

The most exciting stuff isn't the twist, but the new bosses and classes.

Same! Glad there's a source for forums with mods I'm familiar with.

Excited to see the site grow.

I'm excited to join! Sad to see HearthPwn leave, but I had no idea Hearthstation even existed until I heard about Out of Cards.

Can't wait to see this grow outside of Curse's control.

I've bounced around rank 3 for about a week now with midrange hunter.

This is the highest that I've been in the game to-date, and it feels great to play my favorite deck ever without it being the OP broken grind it was before rotation with Deathstalker Rexxar in the meta.

I wish Blizzard could balance out aggro to allow for more interesting control matchups, but I'm still having a lot of fun
