I believe the next one will come in April as usual. I've got a feeling that they released DMF earlier to get more time for fixes before Christmas vacation considering they released Duels + Reward Track + DMF almost at the same time.
And regarding smaller chunks, yeah, it feels ok to get 50 gold every now and then. Well, maybe, it could have been more daily in the old system, but I'm ok with that.
I do not care about unlockables other than +% XP bonus :-) If I get it fast, I will be happy :-) I do not thing they will add unlockables other than cosmetics anyway.
Regarding bugs, every software developer knows that every (non-trivial) software has at least one bug :-) I do not recal the SW development book I've seen this statement in, but it is true :-)
The problem starts when bugs cost users a lot of money or kill them :-) In this regard, Hearthstone is not a "mission-critical" or "life-critical" system I guess.
Just one note: I think it is a bit confusing: It looks like 156525 XP total is needed to get to Level 50, but in reality, only 155200 is needed if I am not mistaken. I've noticed that even before the change people were talking about 196200 when only 192200 was needed. The important detail is that the level 1 requires no XP. 100 XP is the requirement for the level 2.
I strongly believe they will be counted as owned. If not, then it will be a bug :-)

They updated the patch notes, now, it says Dec 16th.
