NEW CARDS REVEALED! New Champ, New Keyword!

Submitted 4 years ago by

Posting this up because I haven't seen anyone mention anything in these threads yet! Hope everyone enjoys - SO EXCITED for this set to drop! Here's a video summarizing the newly spoiled cards!

My first impressions are that Scout creates another layer to the attack phase that will make it more difficult to prepare/plan for an attack to go the way that you want as the defender. As an attacker, you know have a tool to better set yourself up for success. I like how Runeterra has made it a point to make another level to the game similar to poker in trying to read what your opponent does or does not have and then trying to bait it out. I think thus far, it has done it the best of any card game I've seen and Scout just adds to that!

Otherwise, I think the remainder of the cards are all OK, but you can't fully know until the remainder of the set is out. I do think that the Elite w/ Barrier & Scout will certainly give Elites a much needed boost - hopefully they see some more support as well!

What's everyone's thoughts on the new Scout keyword? Good? Bad? Busted?

I think that the scout keyword is pretty cool, and since it allows your opponent to play a unit after the first attack it feels somewhat balanced. Also, since scout doesn’t stack, once you have a scout unit on board it makes future scout units you play weaker.

The thing I’m most scared of is a combo of scout units and elusives, because that could mean a lot of unblockable attacks. Hopefully they add a keyword that means “this unit can block elusive units” during this expansio

No it does not make them weaker, only Scout units can attack in the "scout round", so each Scout unit makes that attack that much stronger.

Also, are we sure that after the scout-attack your opponent gets an action? I mean i would assume so, but the Quinn promo video makes me doubt it a tiny bit, especially the last combat, that part does not look cut and the player makes two continuous attacks :o

That's a good point regarding if the attacks are successive or not. Scout would be much weaker if your opponent does get to make an action prior to your 2nd attack, thus sort of defeating the purpose of the 'Scout' in the first place....

Not really, built-in Rally is still pretty strong, but yes, it would be weaker. Tho having to go twice in a row without an opponent action might become pretty oppressive, if that was the case.

If you look at the video, you can see that there’s a “passed” banner on the opponents side before the second attack, so I think it does allow an action from the opponent

Also, in the video it shows the player attacking with scout units and a Cithria and the next attack is still readied, so I think you can use scout to Attack twice with elusives

Actually, I think it was when they attacked with the 4/4 that the Attack got readied again. Maybe I’m wrong though, the video was highly edited so it’s unclear how it really work

I think only the very last combat at the end of the video looks uncut. The previous ones do look very cut off for splashy effect. But yeah, either way, the video is not a great definitive source of information for this.

How does scout work along Relentless Pursuit?

The Last Breath Scout unit feels overtuned to me. Its statline is kind of bad, but not horrible, it has scout, and then it generates an undercosted follower in your hand. Seems like a bit much... (edit: It actually summons the 4/4 to the field, which makes it flat-out broken in my opinion)

As you would expect, I guess? Both grant you an attack token. So you can launch 3 attacks in a round if you play 1 Relentless Pursuit.

I'm curious how strong floating 3 mana into the sixth round will be? Imagine having two or three scout units. Dropping Cithria the Bold on Turn Six, attacking with everything to give your scout units Fearsome and +1/+1. Then playing Relentless Pursuit, then attacking with scouts, then attacking with scouts and triggering a Cithria again. You can seriously put out a beating quite quickly if control decks aren't prepared.
